I've been listening to their EP a lot recently. Think I must have missed them somehow until now due to the glut of "Crystal" bands on the scene - but this is great! "Sea Of A Thousand Eyes" is my fave so far. Psychedelic space rock with a hint of the Doors, but this isn't any hippie bullshit, this rocks.

Thoughts?

Incidentally I think 2009 needs a band called The Crystal Waves just to seal the generic name problem.

Love the EP; haven't heard the full-length debut.

A Thousand Eyes is easily the best thing on the EP. The chorus reminds me of the 70s band War, for some reason.

I'm friends with their manager—the EP is pretty great, the full length is kinda blah. I was talking to them at their last LA show, and Johnny (singer) was complaining that they didn't know that T&G was going under, only that the label kept pressing them to get their album finished. Then, whups, they're the last new album ever on T&G.

It really shows—the songs seem less developed, and even when they were playing live, they just didn't seem all that into it. It's weird that it feels like, at least with blog-hype bands, that the debut LP is the new sophomore slump, but I'm betting that if CA get some time to relax and retool a little bit, not only will the songs from the LP end up being much better live, but they'll also broaden their palette a bit and that will really help (well, also, I kind of hope they'll make better production decisions too, since the LP really flattens things out and doesn't have enough frequency separation).

Still love the EP though, and they're usually a really tight live band. The record release show was the first time I've seen them have a bum set.

two years pass...

Never did hear the last full-length, but the new one is sounding great. The closer, "Dog Days", is an early favorite.

the EP is pretty brain-melting, the albums are more contained but still raw enough by most standards. their live sets are hotshit and i was just checking to see when they're coming to sf, looks like they only got an opening gig for Wu Lyf comin up (not sure if you life in bayarea admrl)
