I just heard this on the radio.. I had no idea it was Jay-Z, but I agreed with everything he said.

trends die because they're replaced by newer trends, not because of backlash
that said, this coulda been dope if the beat, vocals and/or lyrics reflected the aggression of the concept like, at all

haven't heard anything else from blueprint 3 yet, but regarding kanye..
he seems like the type of dude who's big-headed enough to think his last album is the end-all of autotune.. as if he took it to a level of artistic greatness that will remain unmatched, and that any future usage of this in hiphop production will only be used to appease pop audiences, and not hiphop listeners. .. i wouldn't be surprised if he's finished with it altogether.
― billstevejim, Monday, 8 June 2009 20:39 (sixteen years ago)

I think everyone here is underestimating the weight of this song. Check any hip-hop news site and it's practically the only thing anyone has been talking about since Friday night- with a overwhelmingly positive response (honestly, people have been complaining about autotune for so long, it's a surprise that it took this long for someone to actually build a song around the theme). At this rate, DOA could end up being the hip hop equivalent of Smells Like Teen Spirit, in the sense that it so totally destroys the trend of the moment that no one will ever be able to use autotune ever again. Look for hip hop to get darker and less pop-oriented (on the whole) by the end of the year.

dude...you're overthinking some shit but i dont see how a rapper who most people agree has been off his game for a good half decade can come back with a wack "statement track" and expect to change the course of the genre. there's still plenty of paper to be made using autotune so it's not going anywhere
