Satanic Cocaine Funk
As the late Rick James once said, "Cocaine is a hell of a drug." It makes people do odd things, bad things, things they wouldn't otherwise do. It will make you sell everything from your records to your asshole. It will destroy your life faster than Satan, it will not discriminate or offer any mercy, it will ruin you. But what about the good things cocaine has done? It has provided a steady income for many Colombian farmers, and most importantly it brought us this album. That's right, what you are about to hear is pure uncut DC cocaine porno funk. Wicked Witch was the brainchild of bassist/vocalist Ricky Simms and a couple of friends spending late late nights mixing and remixing. Ricky's sleazy compositions tweaked way past anything recognizable into a disjointed haze of basement funk wankery and freebase smoke. This solid reissue collects Wicked Witch's few recordings done between 1978 and 1986. So fucking schizo-creepy and sinister in a way that only drugs can be. Like poisonous cum on black pleather. This shit's fucked up.

yeah! i thought about creating a thread for this a while ago! it's a great record but its wtf factor is what really makes it. dude was obviously a good musician yet every decision he made is completely unfathomable to me.

If I remember correctly, all the Dischord guys were all freaking out about this dude back in the day - like, he was this cult figure that they would spot roaming around D.C. in a velvet cape and shit. I think Honest Jon's (Damon Albarn's label) has just reissued this on CD and LP.

He puts out a pretty decent range of stuff, but this was definitely a weird one. I think this may have been one that Rollins was going to put out on his Infinite Zero label before it got shut down. Incidenetally, the LP has a couple (equally insane) tracks not on the CD.

Honest Jon's is great, not sure Damon is the big stringpuller in terms of what it releases... this sounds rad either way

great japanese label, they put out a lot of weird reissues, from 30's Hawaii guitar stuff to that Moolah album. they also did a great Idris Ackamoor & the Pyramids comp.

big fan of the Tully 'Sea of Joy' reissue on EM, and yeah the Wicked Witch is on EM

EM stuff unfortunately cost a fortune, at least here.

This album was a big hit in the Matmos european tour van.

i agree with amon, this is awe-inspiringly fucked up and i feel proud of myself for owning a copy but on balance it's rather unlistenable, esp compared to a funkadelic album or a rick james album. and no, it doesn't really sound like a middle ground between the two, just sayin i'd rather reach for either of those than this, even in my most fucked up moods.

i've actually found it quite listenable, especially fancy dancer and the hilarious jazz rock fusion track credited to PARADIGM.

oh nice, EM reissued a record by Roland Young. i have another ep of his that is the weirdest electro weirdness i've ever heard. i had more random people writing me when i posted that song to my site than ever.

Satanic cocaine funk sounds so good as a genre. Really hope this is not just some sort of nonsensical joke amongst ilxors.

Denny Vertigo's Satanic cocaine funk period really wasn't as good as Wicked Witch's tbh.

my buddy found an orig wicked witch 7" at a silver spring flea market a couple years ago!

I had a little phase with this record when I discovered it through ILM some months back. It was nice, but I got over it.

i was worried this wouldn't live up to the cover but it does and then some... holy shit..

This is so fucking dark...I love it..

Chrome doing Rick James is pretty spot on. It also kind of reminded me of a funky Tuxedomoon as it's got those weird disorienting textures.
