Sorry "Grime" Kano, but you did not get sampled for "Whoomp! There It Is".

no 'what have you done' on youtube :(

lex pretend, Sunday, 14 June 2009 15:02 (fifteen years ago)

lex otm, grime Kano's peak period trumped italo Kano's overall greatness but it was distressingly brief.

sussing out the Slick Hustler (I DIED), Sunday, 14 June 2009 15:31 (fifteen years ago)

Italo Kano, no question.

Marcus Brody Ta-Dow! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Sunday, 14 June 2009 16:25 (fifteen years ago)

italo Kano is one of the greatest things ever.

"p's and q's" is crucial evidence

moonship journey to baja, Sunday, 14 June 2009 22:28 (fifteen years ago)

I'm gonna have to go for grime Kano, after much deliberation. Because there are a million things that sound a bit like italo Kano (no matter how great I'm Ready is).

Whereas P's and Q's is the absolute peak of grime as far as I'm concerned - proper grimey bass plus minimal beats plus Kano effortlessly dominating a beat for the first and last time in his entire career.

The annoying thing is I think it's actually not only the peak of his own career but also the pinnacle of grime. What's come out since that's better than P's and Q's? Whereas italo doesn't really need any boosters...

25 Kano featuring Mike Skinner & Leo The Lion
Nite Nite Sep 2005

not sure i ever actually heard this

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:08 (fifteen years ago)

i think there is a lot of better grime than 'Ps and Qs' but then i never liked/cared about Kano as an MC

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:09 (fifteen years ago)

i mean 'I Luv U' is fuckin grime right?!

Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:09 (fifteen years ago)

I chose italo Kano without a doubt but damn, listening "P's and Q's" again after many years gave me goosebumps.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

anyone knows the lyrics to holly dolly? especially what she says after "holly! dolly!"

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:24 (fifteen years ago)

I wonder why Holly Dolly hasn't been sampled by Daft Punk already.

dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:31 (fifteen years ago)

my personal pinnacle of grime is 'unorthadox daughter' but i agree w/matt that 'ps & qs' should've been the pinnacle of a certain strain of grime, the potential crossover anthem one. and kano was a terrific mc back in the day, so smooooth and effortless.

lex pretend, Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:38 (fifteen years ago)

ps & qs is dope (if exceptionally britishes corny conceptually) but come on, the best kano shit is like 900000x classic-er

All these Kano's are great, but only one did "I'm Ready".

Spencer Chow, Monday, 22 June 2009 23:58 (fifteen years ago)

"Grime" Kano's "So Sure" is sublime though.

(Grime even)

Geir Hongro, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 09:19 (fifteen years ago)

had only heard "Ikeya Seki" by Italo Kano for years and thought they were some mysterious zombie movie moody italo sort of thing

"It's A War" sounds like it ought to have been ridiculously expensive, in a good way; Their vocals always kind of sound like they're being sung with a mouthful of cereal or some shit tho

Heard "Typical Me" by oor Kano being played ridiculously loudly from the top floor of mah local estate recently, which was quite enjoyable, but can spontaneously have "Another Life" stuck in my head for days at a time

Italo wins; Italo wins

Did I tell you I sat in front of him on a plane between London and Berlin. I wanted to say something, but he looked tired + had hood up + cans on.

I suppose I should try the other Kano albums for myself. It's just a matter of diving in. Why couldn't he just keep it grimey?
