Ramayana Monkey Chant

Which seems like Balinese ritual, but is the partial creation of a German artist, and became a shock-show for tourists, making it like, the gothest thing ever.

Interesting thread. I can definitely see 'Total Eclipse of the Heart' as a goth song, but I would object against the Donovan inclusion, nothing goth about that song.

OK surely the most goth Moby song is the MV mix of "All That I Need Is To Be Loved"

My internet & computer are really fragile right now so I can't watch all these You Tube videos. But my nomination for this thread is the last song off Talking Heads Remain In Light album. It's called "The Overload" and it is the most goth thing you've ever heard in your life, I promise.

Well could you please explain me what's precisely goth about 'Season of the Witch'? I mean I find the music rather sunny and Donovan's lyrics don't seem to portray any sense of gloom or doom... I thought the song was about psychedelic paranoia but I honestly have no idea. Could be about anything. Am I getting the Goth concept wrong?

Moka, Monday, 15 June 2009 08:25 (sixteen years ago)

I don't think "Season of the Witch" is sunny. Listen to that spidery riff! And paranoia is certainly fair topical game for Goth territory. I don't think there ever was a hard n' fast Goth concept, but I've always thought it fits perfectly. Plus, IT'S GOT THE WORD WITCH IN THE TITLE!!!!

Can't find a clip for the Talking Heads track I mentioned, but here's another one in a similar style of music:

Michael Jackson, "Stranger in Moscow." Come to think of it, MJ has quite a few gothic sounding tracks. Probably not surprising since his life was straight out of gothic novel.
