Weezer don't make me want to destroy all human life on this planet, so I'll go with them.

Alex in NYC, Sunday, 14 June 2009 23:00 (sixteen years ago)

Weezer ftw. I mean, 'All the small things'... O RLY?
Weezer knows Weltschmertz, and that's why it should win alone.

Blink only becomes intolerable when you remember how much the low-pants-backwards-cap white suburban mook scene dominated pop culture.

probably have a comparable number of good songs when it comes down to it. Blink wins for having a good drummer.

blink (so far) has the good sense to break up and stay broken up, so them.

You do know that they're on a reunion tour, right? xp

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 04:38 (sixteen years ago)

Also: this is easily Blink. Rivers Cuomo never wrote anything as kinetic as "Dammit."

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 04:39 (sixteen years ago)

Weezer was a very different band after Matt Sharp left.. If we're judging based on their 90's material, then Weezer wins..

aw crap, really? i should've known. eh, i like more of their songs, anyway.

"These kids today have no idea what real punk is," said Tolbert, who called himself "Steve Spew" from 1992 until May 1999, when he was forced to revert to his real name to take a job at Roberto's Custom Auto Upholstery. "Those so-called punk bands they listen to today? Sum 41? Good Charlotte? The Ataris? They're not punk. Back in the day, man, we used to listen to the real deal: Rancid, The Offspring, NOFX, Green Day. Those guys were what true punk rock was all about. Today's stuff is just a pale, watered-down imitation. There's no comparison."

nothing but 'neb (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 05:48 (sixteen years ago)

Recalling the glory days of the '90s, Tolbert waxed nostalgic for a few moments before condemning today's punks.

"They can talk all they want about how much punk means to them, but the simple fact is, they weren't there," Tolbert said. "These kids today have no sense of history. They don't know about Pennywise. They barely know about Epitaph Records. Most of them don't even know about Green Day's legendary appearance in '94 at the L.A. Coliseum. It was a watershed, one-of-a-kind moment in the history of youth rebellion, and if you didn't live through it, as I did, you'll never get it, no matter how punk you pretend to be."

nothing but 'neb (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 05:49 (sixteen years ago)

They don't know about Pennywise.

irlol

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 05:54 (sixteen years ago)

I'd be pretty happy not to know about Pennywise.

ambience chaser (S-), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 06:22 (sixteen years ago)

Good lord. What is that from?

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 08:16 (sixteen years ago)

I can't wait until 2017 when we can read the bassist from Simple Plan waxing nostalgic about how punk they were back in the good old days.

Weezer by a million miles.

Metro Video Centers, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 13:41 (sixteen years ago)

Weezer used muppets in video, hence my vote. I can't recall a single Blink 182 song but I remember loathing them at the time and also being curious what kind of zeitgeist was going on where a band had numbers in its name.

^ all-time classic

nothing but 'neb (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 15:19 (sixteen years ago)

Weezer made two of the best rock albums of the '90s, so I'm going with Weezer.

da croupier, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

and while the last two Weezer albums were pretty embarrassing, they have more listenable moments than Angels & Airwaves.

da croupier, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

they have more listenable moments than Angels & Airwaves.

Not an entirely difficult feat.

Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

sophies choice imo

what kind of zeitgeist was going on where a band had numbers in its name.

early days of aol screennames. and i think they added the 182 after they found out another band was already called "blink."

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:27 (sixteen years ago)

Blink 182 shoulda won cuz they've made fewer albums

Kitchen Paper Towel (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:31 (sixteen years ago)

like when I think about Weezer I want to murder all the people involved, Blink 182 is just kinda annoying and ignorable

Kitchen Paper Towel (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:32 (sixteen years ago)

both bands are just kinda annoying and ignorable

guammls (QE II), Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:41 (sixteen years ago)

weezer are slightly more annoying but it's like 4.00001 vs. 4.00002

guammls (QE II), Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:42 (sixteen years ago)

HOOS this margin is really thinner than I would've predicted, you should be satisfied w/ this turnout imo...5 years ago it would've been much bigger i think
