Sorry, forgot to take the quotes off the last track. In the course of typing the thanks out I dropped and scratched the CD. Oops.

Matt #2, Monday, 15 June 2009 19:13 (sixteen years ago)

look forward to numerous ilxors tearing their hair out over what to vote for, this is really hard.

sleeve, Monday, 15 June 2009 19:15 (sixteen years ago)

All of the tracks on here that I really love are almost all better live, IMHO, but in the end I voted for Sex, God, Sex.

StanM, Monday, 15 June 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)

my favorite stuff on here is the jarboe material - torn btw "blackmail" or "in my garden"

which is odd cuz my favorite swans album is public castration is a good idea

鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 15 June 2009 19:38 (sixteen years ago)

"Sex, God, Sex" vs. "Like A Drug." I like the live versions of both better.

Um, "Sex, God, Sex" it is.

dlp9001, Monday, 15 June 2009 20:06 (sixteen years ago)

My gut says "Trust Me", but I could easily switch that one with another four or five.
Ugh.

"Trust Me", that first minute tips it

Ivan, Monday, 15 June 2009 20:18 (sixteen years ago)

The tone of the organ in the title track. Damn. It's like a piece of machinery that manufactures Edgar Winters.

bendy, Monday, 15 June 2009 20:28 (sixteen years ago)

Real Love for me, but I almost went for You're Not Real, Girl.

I saw them on the Children of God tour; they were the single most powerful live experience of my life. Every snare hit was like a cannon going off, and they were so slow you had plenty of time to dread the next one coming.

Officer Pupp, Monday, 15 June 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

Sex God Sex.

Never got the chance to see them live: big regret

Duke, Monday, 15 June 2009 21:07 (sixteen years ago)

"Nothing inside you is real, nothing inside you is real"

or maybe the title track. or Like a Drug. this is really hard! you have to play this all the way through everytime anyway.

sonderangerbot, Monday, 15 June 2009 21:15 (sixteen years ago)

I could get into "you're not real, girl" cuz it reminded me of the doors

鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 15 June 2009 21:16 (sixteen years ago)

"could never"

鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 15 June 2009 21:16 (sixteen years ago)

I do not like the doors

鬼の手 (Edward III), Monday, 15 June 2009 21:16 (sixteen years ago)

luckily i've never made that connection

sonderangerbot, Monday, 15 June 2009 21:17 (sixteen years ago)

Love them all but it's "Beautiful Child" for me.

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 15 June 2009 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

Public Swans Reunion Is a Good Idea.

In My Garden

Vokuhila (latebloomer), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 05:05 (sixteen years ago)

Ok - Swans reunion in Latebloomers garden!

StanM, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 07:24 (sixteen years ago)

Went for "You're Not Real Girl", b/c it was the first song I ever heard them do live, on the CoG tour, and they changed my life.

Can we get this "reunion" business over with? This has been discussed on the Swans C/D thread, but to put it simply there will be no Swans
"reunion", b/c Swans was not a group, it was M Gira plus a shifting cast of collaborators. Gira may record and tour again as Swans, but
that won't make it a reunion.

anagram, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 07:48 (sixteen years ago)

Sorry, raga man.

StanM, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 08:52 (sixteen years ago)

Head explodes.

"New Mind" or "Sex, God, Sex" or "Like a Drug" or "You're Not Real" or "Beautiful Child" or "Blackmail".

75 percent of the time it'd be "Blackmail". Today it's "You're Not Real, Girl".

Blind. Love.

Enemy Insects (NickB), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 09:33 (sixteen years ago)

I love this album dearly, this is hard. Went with 'In My Garden' ultimately.

Gerard (Le Bateau Ivre), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 09:48 (sixteen years ago)

Oh my god, it's a Children of God poll. You expect me to choose???!

Sleep Tundra (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 12:17 (sixteen years ago)

Also how the hell is it that someone else thought of this as a poll besides me?

Sleep Tundra (Bimble Is Still More Goth Than You), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 12:18 (sixteen years ago)

You can do Cop.

Say what you will, but you know as well as I do that it's a technicality. Gira said it himself over a decade ago: Swans Are Dead. If they come back to life, it's a reunion as far as I'm concerned.

Not that it matters... I'll shit myself if it actually happens, reunion or not.

I saw them on this tour and people were shouting the song titles of older Swans songs at them and I remember Jarboe's look of total disdain as she gave the crowd at the Berkeley Square the finger.

Neotropical pygmy squirrel, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

"Thug! Weakling! Fool! Stupid Child! Coward!" <- maybe she didn't know those were song titles? :-)

StanM, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

gira should hire audience shills to yell out requests for obscure 70s classics, which swans then perform on cue

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

"highway star"!

(swans play "highway star")

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:24 (sixteen years ago)

"Riders on the Storm!"

(I've not heard Doors anywhere in their songs, but people here have, so why not)

StanM, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:27 (sixteen years ago)

(swans play "riders on the storm")

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:29 (sixteen years ago)

"Freebird!"

Matt #2, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 18:06 (sixteen years ago)

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 18:09 (sixteen years ago)

"Dead!"

StanM, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 18:34 (sixteen years ago)

5 to 1 could be a swans song. sorta.

Srsly, the Feel Good Now live album of this tour does not in any way convey the absolutely staggering brutality of them in the flesh.

Officer Pupp, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 23:24 (sixteen years ago)

There is no hair tearing. I soberly register my inability to vote here.

I lol'd. People were yelling "Time is Money, Bastard" etc. at them.

^^^OTM. I've given it careful thought and I just can't do it. It's not a matter of two songs against each other, or three. It's pretty much the entire damn record.

Neotropical pygmy squirrel, Thursday, 18 June 2009 23:13 (sixteen years ago)

I think I want to change my vote to Children of God. Or as the NME at the time referred to it in print "Children of G-D". Ah, such innocent times.
