Could add about 927 volumes of Dick's Picks to this.

unicorn poop evaluator (WmC), Monday, 15 June 2009 23:44 (sixteen years ago)

yeah i know! wouldn't know where to start there ... american poet is kinda sketchy here, since i think it's pretty close to being a bootleg, but I like it so much that I wanted it included. Lou Reed and The Tots!

tylerw, Monday, 15 June 2009 23:50 (sixteen years ago)

this one might've been good to include too, doh

Sara Sara Sara, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 00:54 (sixteen years ago)

ooh yeah that is a good one. was sticking with rock, but that album does rock, holy shit, does it rock.

tylerw, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 00:57 (sixteen years ago)

Personally I would have added Field Commander Cohen, but no matter. Went for Rolling Thunder in the end.

anagram, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 07:50 (sixteen years ago)

Or even:

- the live stuff on the Genesis Archive Vol.1 box set
- King Crimson, The Night Watch

Fairport Convention - House Full: Live at the L.A. Troubadour, 1970

Yep.

I've only heard "American Poet" out of these. And it's not that great.

Then in walked Barbara Castle with the Lady Eleanor (Tom D.), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 13:33 (sixteen years ago)

House Full wasn't released in the 70s? Hm! Oh well, I'll do a part two after this one, since there are clearly enough records to warrant it -- can't believe I forgot How The West Was Won. Gah!

tylerw, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 13:49 (sixteen years ago)

I'm lukewarm to it myself, but I'm sure a lot of folks would want the throw in 'Pacific Ocean Blue' (is that the title - the long lost Dennis Wilson thing that came out?) - Went with Rolling Thunder Revue Off. Boot.

Despite the fact that it's a studio album that came out in the 70s?

I prefer neil young's bottom line performance from '74 to any of the officially released stuff

Joy Division - Les Bains Douches 18 December 1979

Paul in Santa Cruz, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:38 (sixteen years ago)

haha, there are so many I missed, thanks ILM. oh well, out of the ones I put up, I'm not sure how I'll vote, I love all of them. Maybe the Crazy Horse Fillmore East? That is almost perfect. The Television one is excellent, but there may be bootlegs I prefer (like this one http://doomandgloomfromthetomb.tumblr.com/post/84209626/the-darkness-doubles-tom-verlaine-fred-smith), even though the sound quality is great.

tylerw, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 14:41 (sixteen years ago)

Of those up top I'd vote Rolling Thunder. Just met someone who was at the Harvard Square show, he said they played for five hours straight. Whoa!

More nominations, though some of these were heavily bootlegged:
Live At The Isle of Wight - The Who 1970
Live At The Fillmore East - It's About That Time - Miles Davis 1970 (I guess you can't include the Cellar Door Sessions because Live-Evil was out there)
Funkadelic Live - 1971
Le Bataclan - Velvet Underground 1972
Honeyman - Tim Buckley 1973
Live 1973 - Gram Parsons
Live At The Roxy - Bob Marley 1976
Live 1977 - The Fall
I'm Going To Do What I Want To Do - Captain Beefheart 1978
Live At The El Mocambo - Elvis Costello 1978

miles davis - dark magus counts I guess

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:31 (sixteen years ago)

that didn't come out in the 70s? but yeah, those are all good suggestions ... maybe i'll just rip it up and start again ...

tylerw, Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:32 (sixteen years ago)

Dark Magus is a live album by jazz artist Miles Davis recorded at Carnegie Hall in New York City on March 30, 1974. The album was released in 1977 in Japan as a double-LP by Columbia Records, and released in 1997 in the United States in a double-CD format.

鬼の手 (Edward III), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:35 (sixteen years ago)

It came out in 70s didn't it? In Japan?

Then in walked Barbara Castle with the Lady Eleanor (Tom D.), Tuesday, 16 June 2009 17:35 (sixteen years ago)

Oops xp

damn yo, if we were going by when it was released in the US we'd have to include Agharta/Pangaea right?
