Wow, why no activity on this thread? As much as there is some great stuff on this, I think that Young Marble Giants song will forever touch my soul in a place that little other music even comes close.

Guess no-one saw it, I know I didn't.

I went for Scritti, similar reasons to yours for YMG.

Truth be told, possibly I've overheard it, and would rather put "Final Day" on the jukebox, followed by "Poor old Soul", but hay.

Strict Time, from my favorite Elvis C record, Trust.

Whoa, neat. Glad you enjoyed it, Michael! I don't think I can vote--whole reason there ended up being so many mixes was because I couldn't narrow it down much more!

Just in case anybody wants this or the other mixes, they're all available for download here.

Are the rest of the songs on that Scritti Politti album anything like 'Sweetest Girl'? I love hat song but any albums of theirs I've tried to listen to have been not at all like that song.

I chose Teardrop Explodes.

baleen, the krill queen (Abbott), Monday, 29 June 2009 15:15 (sixteen years ago)

Trust me, you'll love it.

Mark G, Monday, 29 June 2009 15:25 (sixteen years ago)

I didn't get 'Songs to Remember' the first time I heard it many years ago, probably because I was too in love with the disjointed post-punk style Scritti. But now I love them both equally. Still not quite as sold on 'Cupid & Psyche,' but it's good, too.

crazy. about the best song rem ever recorded. and it wasn't even by them.

Put up another one of these and I promise I'll vote for something cool and obscure that I learned about from this box set, but nothing beats "Radio Free Europe" for me.

Guayaquil (eephus!), Monday, 29 June 2009 21:41 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, this is a great mix. not sure if it should be radio free, strict time, final day, love or homeymoon killers ...

tylerw, Monday, 29 June 2009 21:44 (sixteen years ago)

final day, i think

tylerw, Monday, 29 June 2009 21:44 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

wow, i thought i had more than 5 mins to consider my choice :/

iro with the brown bag (Hunt3r), Monday, 29 June 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

I voted "Sweetest Girl," but I could've gone with the Necessaries, YMG, others. It's funny--I don't think of this mix as often as some others, and it's definitely less definitively "post-punk" in sound, but I think that's why I like it--one of the mixes that best reveals the breadth of quality music that could (at least tangentially) be considered post-punk.

Surprised no votes for "Golden Brown". . .
