akm, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 20:42 (sixteen years ago)

4 extremely strong contenders, all from Grace. i can't decide.

jed_, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 20:50 (sixteen years ago)

This album looks pretty shoddy to me - 'Grace' plus a bonus disc, with a big sticker saying "Hallelujah!", would've been a nicer thing to give people.

Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 21:08 (sixteen years ago)

xpost: Think we all agree. There's a couple of these songs tho (like 'Everybody here wants you') which I think are better than many of the songs that are on Grace. But yes, having such a limited catalogue doing Grace with a bonus disc would've the right thing to do.

Moka, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 21:13 (sixteen years ago)

Is Hallejulah on this album? Because if it isn't...

President Keyes, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 21:33 (sixteen years ago)

Lots to choose from, but I'm going with "Grace."

Lover, You Should've Come Over

Turangalila, Wednesday, 17 June 2009 22:10 (sixteen years ago)

I thought they did release "Grace" with a bonus disc..

And I have a copy of a CD somewhere with this exact track listing which is definitely not called "The Best Of Jeff Buckley" and I assumed the whole point of the comp was not as a "best of" but more of a "tribute" type thing..

billstevejim, Thursday, 18 June 2009 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

also mojo pin and the smiths cover are live and theres a few acoustic and demo versions.. if this is in fact the same album.

billstevejim, Thursday, 18 June 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

no "your flesh is so nice???"

Lover

mystery white boy is probably a better album, i'm betting

i want to marry a pizza (gbx), Thursday, 18 June 2009 01:11 (sixteen years ago)

I admit I just don't listen to him anymore. My big Jeff fan days are long over, right or wrong. Doesn't mean I don't love him or admire his talent, though.

I'm going to go with "Lover You Should Have Come Over" as well, simply because it's the one that still comes back into my head sometimes.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

You know, you should have omitted #13 as an option here....

Geir Hongro, Saturday, 27 June 2009 12:50 (fifteen years ago)

What Will You Say is better than any of these. Also, the Glastonbury set the BBC taped is very good.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Saturday, 27 June 2009 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

Okay you guys have me pulling out Buckley. Nice work.

I agree What Will You Say is probably better than any of these, but with that song it's not so much a question of "a better song" as it is "do you want a great big hurricane of a tearjerker about how he felt about his father etc..." I mean really, that song is hard to listen to, as good as it is.

Somehow I didn't realize Vancouver was on this poll. I feel awful that it got no votes. What a riff! What twisty and turny Liz Fraser-ish falsetto parts! I've said it before and I will say it again - his second album was gonna fucking blow the lid off of everything.

We all fall in love sometimes

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 28 June 2009 20:50 (fifteen years ago)

I didn't know there was a recorded version of that, I just had an mp3 of him playing it on something called 'The Music Faucet WFMU' which is cut off midway through. I think I preferred it that way, not a big fan of the upbeat ending.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 28 June 2009 21:20 (fifteen years ago)

I would like to politely elicit 500 page essays as to why that clip does not do it for you. If Jeff Buckley doesn't do it to you in that clip, you better give up now. Forget it, it's over. You're never going to be a Jeff Buckley fan. Sorry.

Buckets of Rong (Bimble), Sunday, 28 June 2009 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

fourteen years pass...

“Hallelujah” still his most popular song on spotify but it seems that lately the most listened song is “lover you should’ve come over” so maybe, maybe it will be his legacy song in a few years.
