Either sampled or recorded, but strictly no discernable words (including made up words a la Cocteau Twins).
So far I can only think of Maurizio - "Eleye" and some track from the Matias Aguayo albu that had sinister humming.

That remix of Kelis's "Trick Me" I think.

Holden remix I mean.
― Eastürzendes Annoybaten (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 23 June 2009 09:13 (sixteen years ago)
No, I meant Tiefschwarz remix. Holden did Britney's "Breathe on Me", that's what I was thinking of maybe.

what about the background music in akira when the childrens toys coalesce into toy-monsters and there's like this weird chanting thing going on in the background? i don't speak japanese so i don't know if they're singing discernable words or not.
― messiahwannabe, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 09:41 (sixteen years ago)
also art of noise - moments in love
"Moments in Love" has a female voice singing "moments in love". Or at least some version of it has.

The version in your mind
― Eastürzendes Annoybaten (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 23 June 2009 09:55 (sixteen years ago)
I don't think there's any discernible words there, it's just chanting. And that chanting bit has been sampled in "Dirty" by Underworld (the original "Dirty", not the "Dirty Epic" version which appears on Dubnobasswithmyheadman), which also qualifies for this thread.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 10:02 (sixteen years ago)
No, there's definitely a vocal version, it's on the Daft compilation.
― Tuomas, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 10:03 (sixteen years ago)
the version i remember has both - the vox "moments in love" and this rhythmic samples breathy sound that i suppose could also be a pan flute, but i always though it was a breathy "fairlight07 female - ah" or something
― messiahwannabe, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 10:10 (sixteen years ago)
Ah, I know what sample you're talking about, but that doesn't sound like a human voice to me, merely a synth sound.

Is there anything on Tour de France Soundtracks that also fits this? Seems like the sort of record where there might be.
― Enemy Insects (NickB), Tuesday, 23 June 2009 11:06 (sixteen years ago)
The gasps of breath from Tour De France, of course but then they start singing in French
― Tannenbaum Schmidt, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 12:14 (sixteen years ago)
Tiefschwarz mix of trick me does have a few Kelis vocals remaining - "This is it" "Trick me" as well as lots of gasps and breathing

Barbara Morgenstern and Robert Lippok - "Sommer"
Piano beats and humming. Very bucolic.

Sheila Chandra--"Speaking In Tongues."

Holden's Britney's 'Breathe on Me' is epic but does have one single line left intact, albeit stretched almost to breaking.

some Meredith Monk, yeah?

There are so many examples of this it's ridiculous:
the *entire* Dave Aju album "Wide Open" is techno in which the kit/drum sounds are only voice noises being sampled and chopped up (see "Roundabout")
tons of Bjork's "Medulla" album was made this way too
also:
Bodenstandig 3000
Tones on Tail "Slender Fungus"
and, er, not to egotrip but the Matmos track "The Purple Island" from the Quasi-Objects album.
