I do understand that virtually every song created in the last decade (and a good part of the music in the XX century) has in some way or another been influenced by another culture, yet I'm looking for fussion songs with a marked cross-cultural sound.

Paul Simon - Me & Julio Down by the Schoolyard (influenced by Afrobeat)
I don't hear Afrobeat. And even if it's there, is it really marked?

What year was it released, 1972? Was Paul Simon influenced by African music in 1972?
― Then in walked Barbara Castle with the Lady Eleanor (Tom D.), Tuesday, 23 June 2009 10:22 (sixteen years ago)
yes, 1972. Not that I've ever heard.

Airto Moreira does the percussion on "Me and Julio" so if anything the influence is Brazil/samba. Which is what it sounds like to me.

Afrobeat itself was heavily influenced by James Brown and other American funk, so you can add every Fela Kuti song on the list.

Songs with (a marked) ignorance of Different Cultures― ledge
Yet this marked ignorance is Paul Simon's not mine! In his mind he's definitely channeling afrobeat on most of his songs. Africa is his special place. He likes the idea of it. It's not my fault if his idea about africa is faulted.
