OMG I swear I was JUST thinking about doing a Plasmatics albums poll! Love love love this band! And this album. Still have it on vinyl with the Plasmatics Secret Service order form ("Do phoney incompetent rock critics who like to play it safe make you want to go out and do something violent?"). And now that I think of it, "Monkey Suit" may be the most sung song ever chez moi; I growl the "there you go!" part to my cats every time I feed them.

I'm going with "Won't You" here since it's the one that messes your hair up the most. As with disco, it reduces language down to speed-chewing, spelling, and counting "to shake off all remnants of its own textuality, to become pure, unconstructed, undifferentiated discourse," to borrow from Walter Hughes.

Going with "Living Dead," although I much prefer Beyond the Valley of 1984 and Metal Priestess.

Great article, Alex. I have a similar perverse affection for the band through following coverage of their confrontations with local police departments across the US in SOUNDS.

Wound up at a local retro-punk club run by under-thirties at the end of a particularly drunken evening a couple of years back, and was totally thrown by hearing Plasmatics singles spun alongside the obvious early classics by the Damned and Clash. I suppose it was my turn to be the old geezer at the sixties garage night who can't get his head around the fact that the kids actually take The Troggs, or The Seeds, or whoever seriously these days.

No one cares about The Plasmatics. :(
