― jdchurchill, Monday, 29 June 2009 21:35 (fifteen years ago)
also the sharks would have to manufacture robot fingers to operate the instrumentscuz they fins aint so precise . . .
― jdchurchill, Monday, 29 June 2009 21:36 (fifteen years ago)
that's what i'm saying, this music sounds like the band doesn't have any fingers. . .
― Mr. Que, Monday, 29 June 2009 21:37 (fifteen years ago)
wouldn't that build up esteem? although true it aint.only ten fingaz er eight plus a thumb on each hand

so i listened to a couple of these songs and say that no, they don't matter. maybe a great live band if you've had a beer or two in ya, but do they matter? no.
― ian, Monday, 29 June 2009 22:15 (fifteen years ago)
finally an answer to the question . . .anyone else has an opinion?
― jdchurchill, Monday, 29 June 2009 22:21 (fifteen years ago)

― jdchurchill, Monday, 29 June 2009 22:55 (fifteen years ago)
I treat every matter like it's shark matter.
― Garri$on Kilo (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 01:47 (fifteen years ago)
You guys are not particularly good. Get better before you blow your load on embarrassing internet marketing, which never works anyway. Take it from someone who knows.
― Garri$on Kilo (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 01:52 (fifteen years ago)
garri$on: is that what is happening on ilm?i just read so many posts on these boards and thought someone would've had some verbosityeither tearing us a new asshole, or perhaps praising . . .but so far there is no extensive expression using pretty wordsi'll wait . . .
― jdchurchill, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:17 (fifteen years ago)
the opening of three card monte reminds me of early 90s urge overkill trying to learn their instruments while tape is running.
my advice:
you need a different singer
you aren't as funny as you think you are
but sometimes there were riffs i thought were cool or showed promise
― otm and his package (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:23 (fifteen years ago)
i don't think i'm funny at allwhat do you think is funny?
― jdchurchill, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 17:39 (fifteen years ago)
i really want both that shark hat and the costume
― Hard House SugBanton (blueski), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 17:40 (fifteen years ago)
i dunno the vocals made it seem like it was trying to be "funny" i guess
― otm and his package (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 17:53 (fifteen years ago)
like on which songs? and by funny are we talking "humorous" or "off kilter"?
― jdchurchill, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 18:03 (fifteen years ago)
I'm out of the city on Long Island (or "Strong Island," as P.E. used to call it) this week. I was sadly not there to see it, but yesterday morning, a wicked-large shark was spotted just in the surf at our local beach. Friend took the below pic.

― Alex in NYC, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 18:19 (fifteen years ago)
But did it matter?
― StanM, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 18:24 (fifteen years ago)
What do you want exactly? You just sound like a bunch of guys jamming who kind of know how to play their instruments and maybe have some ideas that have some potential. There's really not enough there to warrant detailed analysis, tbh. You're not terrible or anything, just keep practicing and developing your ideas and see where it goes. No one here is going to be able to give you any specific constructive criticism of any specific song that will be of any use, especially since your band just doesn't sound developed enough yet to even warrant that.
― Garri$on Kilo (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 18:42 (fifteen years ago)
Prairie Spies should go back to calling themselves Sharks and set up a show with Shark Matter at Ronny's. Dennis Quaid can emcee.
― great gabbneb's ghost (jaymc), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 18:56 (fifteen years ago)
whoa-k gari$on.we'd be doing that anyway, i just thought i would see what other music nerds think about it.i'll agree that we are still in the pupal stages at best, but we busted our asses to make the recordings and now i have lost all sense of objectivity regarding them.
ggg: good idea, lemme know how mr quaid feels about it
anyway thanks to all those who listened and spent any time doing anything and we'll see what happens next, eh?solid!oh and how do you post with a picture? that's a wicked skill . . .

In the end, the shark I talked about upthread did not matter. Turns out it was a basking shark (i.e. not a maneater). Boo.
― Alex in NYC, Wednesday, 1 July 2009 18:35 (fifteen years ago)
Yes.
and yes i do feel gypped.
Yeah, my girlfriend graduated five years after you and gets a lot of mileage out of the fact that Obama was her commencement speaker.

update! we are happy to tell you that we'll be performing as part of the February PRF BBQ at Quenchers friday feb 4th with Blackout Dates, Transmontane, Bully Pulpit, Heavy Bombers & Nonagon. the BBQ will continue feb 5th at Metropolis Coffee with many more bands, and a chili cook off!also our record finally got reviewed: "Shark Matter portray their sound as “tongue-bitingly restrained and self-indulgent.” Well, they’re half right. Among the seven tunes on Chum Bucket, “Times For The Changelings” is a passable jam, but the remaining numbers are all more exercises in hedonism than harmony. As for the first part of their description, there’s definitely controlled frenzy within their blues-punk performance: what’s missing is maturity. (www.sharkmatter.net)– Jeff Berkwits"
