Theyre from Texas and not a million miles away from The Mike Gunn

http://www.last.fm/music/The+Mike+Gunn (Tom carter before he formed Charalambides)

Who I manage to actually own lots of stuff by.

So lets hear your thoughts about these bands and recommend some other similar stuff!

Ned I believe is a fan .

oh yeah and Dunlavy (ex The Mike Gunn)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 14:28 (fifteen years ago)

The Linus Pauling Quartet albums appear to be available on last.fm for free download

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:05 (fifteen years ago)

I only have one Mike Gunn LP, cuz i'm a Charalambides obsessive, but I hardly ever listen to it.

ian, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:08 (fifteen years ago)

Which one?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:11 (fifteen years ago)

lemme go check....

Durban Poison! I will make a point to listen to it today. In fact, I will listen to it right now.

ian, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:14 (fifteen years ago)

I think i still need the 1st lp with handscreen print (i have the cd though)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:14 (fifteen years ago)

also: haven't heard the other two groups in your posting, RFI?

as for ex-cbides, I can't say enough for the Migrantes LPs on Eclipse. Both are stellar listens--featuring Jason Bill, of Market Square-era Charalambides.

ian, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:15 (fifteen years ago)

well you can download the LP4 stuff from their last.fm or have a listen on myspace.
Dunlavy is one of the guys from The Mike Gunn but dont have any links for it.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 15:23 (fifteen years ago)

I also own - but rarely play - that Durban Poison LP, also because of the Charlambides connection. Probably unfairly dismissed it on account of it sounding pretty much nothing like Charalambides. I bought it at the same time as a (live?) s/t Linus Pauling Quartet record, which I think was pretty good. Need to drag that out again.

And I always confuse the Linus Pauling Quartet with the Irving Klaw Trio.

Sad Pygmy and Rusted Shut do more garage and noise (respectively) versions of this general style.

Dunno where Vocokesh are from but they sound like they belong in this thread, along with Paik and SubArachnoid Space.
Could do with a thread title change actually with those in the title instead of me starting a separate one for each

vocokesh are from the great white north, milwaukee to be specific (and paik's from detroit)

kamerad, Tuesday, 30 June 2009 18:10 (fifteen years ago)

yeah I know they're not from texas but I decided i didnt want to limit the thread just to texas bands and i didnt want to start separate threads on each, may as well keep it on one thread.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 18:12 (fifteen years ago)

a one covers all new psych/spacerock thread covering older bands whereas the thread Ned linked to is for current stuff just out

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 19:32 (fifteen years ago)

Seek ye ST37 and all she sails with: Book of Shadows, Abigail und Hansel, Venison Whirled, Jherri Signfeld's Atrophied Sackque. Good ol' post-Buttholian psychedelic shit. Cubensis in the cow-patty.

I lurk therefore I ain't (Fuckatimest), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 19:54 (fifteen years ago)

yeah i forgot about ST37, got a cd by them, good stuff.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Tuesday, 30 June 2009 19:56 (fifteen years ago)

they also have an excellent split LP with the aforementioned Vocokesh, who can do no wrong in my eyes.
