Really hoping "Lovestoned" is a J. Timberlake cover on the order of Ada's Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover.

one month passes...

Nice P'fork feature with and a free mix by Mayer. New Superpitcher album in February (Pachanga Boys (him and Rebolledo) track is great).

Wow, Ofterschwang is nuts. Is it possible to play it out unironically?

Highlights for me are 40 Love (of course) and Heart's A Mess (of course). I also quite enjoyed re-listening to the Dirk Leyers remix, the Wighnomy's remix, and Gui Boratto's almost year-old remix of I'm in Love w/ a German Film Star (which sounds much better to me in the context of this compilation than on an EP), all of which didn't really strike me when I first heard them. I'm still not able to get into the new Matias Aguayo sound, or for that matter Mugwump.

Other than that, I'm a bit perturbed by how many of the tracks are samey, snooze-inducing cuts with interchangeable bass lines that would have sounded terrific and fresh several years ago (Closer, Total 9, Who Is Who, the aptly-named Coma) interspersed with a couple of schlocky novelty songs (that Pachanga Boys track and the aforementioned Ofterschwang).

I have no idea why anyone likes the Rebolledo/Comeme stuff at all, I just remember all of it sounding awful.

That being said, Matias Aguayo has a podcast up for RA, which I'll give a shot.

I'm very interested in hearing what Superpitcher (solo) has been up to, though.

I really loved 'Walter Neff' and 'Pitaya Frenesi' but all the other stuff Aguayo's been involved with recently has been... just sort of meh. On the other hand every time I've seen him DJ in the past few years he's been the most exciting thing, so maybe this Comeme stuff sounds good mixed and tedious as full tracks.

I admire the fact that he's breaking away from that classically lush Kompakt sound (for which Closer Musik is really a high water mark) but man, I need my dance music to have some bass.

I agree, but I can't help see it it as largely like Los Updates were last year: all the time branded as this hip Latin American house-not house act whose freshness was going to come back and cut through dance music sterility, but in reality is nothing but really whiny, annoying, boring, and just plain bad-sounding music (In my own opinion, of course).

By which I mean, I think people are really getting off on the whole idea (including the bumbumbox stuff, that name alone which is probably the actual lone cause of my distaste). I like what they're doing though, and I'll try to listen to the M. Aguayo 'cast, although (outside of that recent 40 minute untold fact mix) I haven't listened to any podcasts at all since October, so I doubt I actually will.

i've had to dive into the comeme and newer aguayo stuff for this feature i'm writing, and i must say: i think that the hypothesis about this shit sounding better mixed is spot on...really like the RA podcast.

nice! he have the balls to say the truth! (the table is the table), Monday, 10 August 2009 21:22 (fifteen years ago)

i mean, it seems like he started the label with the intention of releasing stuff he and his crew used in mixes. anyway.

I'd like to hear a new Superpitcher album. I think of him as such a romantic, but recently I haven't been feeling his newer music.

Jacob Sanders, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 04:33 (fifteen years ago)

That RA mix is actually quite enjoyable. It's odd to hear how closely he aligns now to the DJ/Rupture nueva cumbia school of dance music, something which hadn't quite occurred to me even after hearing those Comeme EPs and reading recent interviews.

i too would love to hear a new Superpitcher album, if only because his remix of Lawrence's "Along the Wire" might be one of the most beautifully sad techno tracks evah.

Seriously, no fucking kidding.
