Erik's a friendly dude -- I love the random psych comps he puts together.

I have, over the years, owned a small handful of their reissues and comps. The comps are great because they are cheap cheap cheap and have tons of songs on them. They introduced me to quite a few cool songs. "Space Amazon" by the Pandoras is kind of amazing and for letting me hear that they will always be heroes to me. If you like "outsider" music and they are really strong on that. "Only In America" is a great collection of weird songs and tracks. I've got one or two of their psych comps and they are great, though pretty typical for the genre - 1/4 brilliant, 1/4 ho-hum and 1/2 neither good nor bad. The booklets etc are nothing special but who cares about that?

I've got that Moving Parts thing - it's a little more tuneful than Mission of Burma, I guess.

i feel like that 80's boston garage/60's crowd is almost forgotten. i barely remember the bands and i am old. but arf arf put out stuff by willie alexander and the cromagnums and the hopelessly obscure and people like that. as well as post burma stuff like birdsongs of the mesozoic.

i have a great arf arf 60's instrumental comp. i think it's arf arf. lotsa fun. but that kinda stuff came later.

buzz buzz buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. that's the instrumental one. though now i see there was a second volume as well that i don't have.

that beyond the calico wall comp is pretty influential as far as comps go.

I'd like to pick one of those Buzz Buzz Buzzzz ones. I really need to refuel my garage/psych collection. I haven't been to a decent record store in ages though.

i pretty much have only heard the psych/garage and "real people" stuff on arf arf, and it's all been pretty good. especially the heavy/over/lethal/dead dose of lyte/heavy/wylde/hard psych series. and the "only in america" series has some cool stuff.

as for artists i like the white lightning and litter albums, the lazy smoke, pandora, jack mudurian, the lost, lucia pamela. probably more. that pandora album is excellent, actually.

I have Only In American 1 & 2 .. both are recommended.

I played "The Talent Show" on a long car journey with wife and her parents.

At first it was "Turn this rubbish off! What is this?"

By the end, they'd enjoyed it.

(they never want to hear it again tho)

that instrumentals comp rules, it's almost always in the car because my wife listens to it constantly.
