the vocals on this are from the chick from CSS right? anyway that sounded pretty good if not a bit too lifeless, wish they'd cut the vocals at some point and ~~grooved~~

these lifeless vocals are good lifeless vocals

the album is fairly solid but nothing stands out to me. That song, 15-20, is probably the best track on it. i find it pretty underwhelming really.

i dunno. that song kinda just felt like the 90s Grand Royal type shit. Butter 08 or Cibo Mato, etc. i've heard other songs of theirs that i've totally forgotten about. same way i feel about !!! i guess?

Oh, is THIS who does that song? Kept hearing it over the summer, no idea who it was. I think I like "You'll Disappear" a bit better, tho.

how is this the same band? this is totally throwback soul. done very well. and it's not on their myspace either.

just heard the Prins Thomas Discomiks of "You'll Disappear," I think I finally met the 13-minute PT mix that just feels way too long for me. almost nodded off during the electric guitar solo.

Form & Control has hooked me in.

Choose your poison, choose your pastiche. Some of these songs have an uncanny familiarity ("The Unknown Faces at Father James Park"). Maybe if I were to figure out where all the fragments come from the songs would lose their charm, but then again, maybe they're more organic than that.

Horrible video for "Unknown Faces. . ." No need to clobber us over the head with how retro it all is, and undermine a good song with hints that the whole thing is just an exercise in irony. Bleah.

Maybe I am just in denial about how much this is a calculated irony-laced (but that doesn't have to mean entirely ironic) pastiche because it just happens to press some of my buttons extremely well.

I think it's a mistake to criticize this for not being staight up disco. It feels more like disco tinged 70s soft rock, with some hangovers from 60s psychedelia (not a bad thing in my book).

ok ok, i'm going to give this album another go ...
seem to recall finding it somewhat dull, but rudi has perked my interest ..

With some changes here and there, "All Cliches" could be Lansing-Dreiden.

And I think there's something similar going on in both bands, which is not to say I'd say, oh this band generally sounds like Landing-Dreiden. In some abstract way, the way that things are being combined is similar. Like the distribution of musical molecules or something, if you could look at it under a musical electron-microscope.

That first Lansing-Dreiden album got some pretty harsh reviews too.

I'm listening to their debut now and not enjoying it. Seems much more like a mere exercise than the latest album.
