"Fancy Mice" off the True Love Stories LP was my favourite...

"She's a tart. He's very cheap."

I forget the title, but the B-side to "jilted John" was very good as well. "yeah, yeah, I love Sharon/yeah yeah, she loves me/yeah yeah, we love each other/ and we're so hap-pyyyyy" went the chorous. It was not as good as "beware of the flowers, coz I'm sure they're going to get you, yeah" by Otway & Barrett though

Norman Phay, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

norman you are wrong it was bettah

"he's more of a man than YOU'LL evah be..."

also: "yeah yeah! it's not fair! yeah yeah! it's not fair!"

mark s, Wednesday, 26 June 2002 00:00 (twenty-three years ago)

oh no i'm not mark
"I go with her to watch telly/
the kids are horrible and the house is dead smelly/
but it's all worth it coz when they go to bed/
we start snogging on the so-o-faaah"!

"yeah yeah - it's not fair" is pretty good though.

Produced by M.Hannett of course. Who was in the backing group - I can't remember and this is troubling me greatly! Was it Hannett and his Invisible Girls or was it The Freshies?

three years pass...
does this anticipate or is it concurrent w/the first television personalities singles? b/c the sensibility is remarkably similar.

The guitarist was definitely John Scott of the Invisible Girls. Not sure who else (if anyone) played on it, although I do have some vague recollection that the "drums" were actually Martin Hannett hitting an old cardboard box (???).

But it doesn't sound anything like a cardboard box. It opens with a cymbal crash for starters.

Jilted John came after the TVPs. The album is a bit different from the single though. It's a real concept album with a pretty eclectic sound. A lot of it sounds more similar to the Monochrome Set. "Jilted John" is easily the most abrasive thing on it.

Obviously "Jilted John" is the all time classic but I'll mention "Baz's Party" as an alternate.

Going Steady.

Obviously it's Jilted John.

Now, has anyone heard Gordon's Not A Moron recorded by Gordon & Sally? I know of it, but have never seen/heard it.

I always loved Where's Karen - final track on the album.
Has an elegaic feel you'd never have expected from the orig. single.
"And now you're in, I'm positive, a squatters' den
Where junkies live, taking heroin,
Oh I know it's true."
