I knew I would go to hell with this.

For my defence, I was actually pretty sincere about Deadbeat Summer having some kind of a balearic vibe (in an Air France way...). There's also other acts like Ducktails or Forest Swords that share that same kind of sound.

But if you find it really disturbing, I have obviously nothing against the mods editing the title.

k i know this keeps getting brought up but, isn't this every non-granolafolk indie artist's "backstory" right now? it's all just depressed dudes smoking weed, playing old video games, watching days of thunder, etc..

but anyway, this album is pretty dope, some of it kinda reminds me of Todd era todd rundgren. i am still struggling w/indie vocals these days but the vox here are only mildly annoying.

Listened to this finally last night while drifting off to sleep. It sounded like an old Billy Ocean tape playing on a boombox through a couple of pillows. I kind of like it.

Man, I don't know, I was feeling Tanlines' remix work, but that new EP isn't really sticking with me. Maybe a few more listens...I have somewhat of a hard time seeing the Tough Alliance comparisons, but that's because I <3 TTA to death.

The songs are organized like a pop song but still disorganized and experimental enough that you can listen to it as a means of selfless possession. The music that I love to listen to is twofold-- there's noisy soundscape-y stuff like Black Dice and Alvin Lucier all the way to, like, D'Angelo and The-Dream. I always wanted to hear them at the same time.

Yes, "Fallout" is what lured me in - hearing one morning when clock radio alarm went off. Good stuff. Sad it took me so long to discover it.

New album drops in a few weeks. Interested to see where he goes with this album. Thought Era Extraña was a nice progression from Psychic Chasms.

"Annie" is a brilliant song.

'Slumlord' is fabulous too - bodes well for the album streamable NOW

Really enjoying this. Jammed with ideas (more impressively given the original version of the album was apparently lost) albeit all within a specific aesthetic so he probably won't be expanding his fanbase and will almost certainly be left off year-end lists. Can't wait to hear a lot of this live. His vocals are noticeably better too (altho the bar was pretty typically low there).

Despite being an interlude that bass drop on 'Bozo' is one of the best moments. 'Techno Clique' also great.

But the bits I like best are basically Cut/Copy with a less irritating singer.

Now that I've had time to listen to this multiple times, I have to say it's one of this year's greatest disappointments for me. There's a lot going on, musically-speaking, but nothing coalesces to an appealing whole. I'm more than willing this a personal defect, but fuck it, I'm upset nonetheless.

New album 'World Of Hassle' out in a few months, now just as Alan Palomo. Tracks released so far offer more (or at least as much) glitz but less grit than previous NI work/aesthetic. Nice to see he's still making these kinds of videos though.

new album is kinda ilm bait (very sophisti-synthpop), definitely his best work

I like this album but find the lyrics on it kind of obnoxious. The schtick worked for me on his previous record, but it feels clumsier and goofier here. Especially that first track... I guess partly it's the delivery too, the silly voice he's doing.

But you know what? The music's good enough for me to get over it. Especially Stay-At-Home DJ, that's the standout for me so far.
