nothing monumental of course but i figure that the sentiment would be pretty split since he doesn't have a ::canon:: single really

1 the boss
2 mafia music
3 here i am
4 push it
5 maybach music
6 hustlin
7 speedin
8 magnificent

i love the first three, really like the next three, could take or leave the last two but don't mind them necessarily

barrymore, murdrewland (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 14 July 2009 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

surprisingly tough!

i'm stuck between mafia, hustlin', and the boss

mazeltov cocktail (M@tt He1ges0n), Tuesday, 14 July 2009 23:06 (sixteen years ago)

voted "Mafia" but "Hustlin'" is classic

"Here I Am" is worst obv

The Reverend, Wednesday, 15 July 2009 00:24 (sixteen years ago)

the boss seems like t-pain's high point to me for some reason.

mazeltov cocktail (M@tt He1ges0n), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 00:25 (sixteen years ago)

"mafia music" is so good

rhythm-al-shipsm (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 01:15 (sixteen years ago)

i want to vote for "the boss" but come on

he fucked up so much by not releasing "Blow" as a single, although I heard it on the radio a lot. since I can't vote for that, "Mafia Music."

"Here I Am" is so not the worst.

the fool boy Shiplo (some dude), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 02:10 (sixteen years ago)

sarge: you left out "All I Really Want". 1 terius stan demerit 4 u haha

barrymore, murdrewland (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 03:53 (sixteen years ago)

btw "here i am" is an awesome summer radio jam - little quicksilver beat like that is so dope, i was pretty shocked when i read that it was drumma boy

barrymore, murdrewland (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 03:59 (sixteen years ago)

i can't believe that i forgot about "all i really want" considering it has only the most classic video still of all time

barrymore, murdrewland (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 04:06 (sixteen years ago)

shit, didnt even know "all i really want" was a single, that's a good song. "bossy lady" should be next if it's up to me

rhythm-al-shipsm (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 04:18 (sixteen years ago)

i wish we had a deathfest video with a video still that said

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver has come to Baltimore.

barrymore, murdrewland (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 04:21 (sixteen years ago)

lol

i don't think "all i really want" was ever actually worked to radio, i think they just shot a video for it but really all the stations played "maybach music 2" instead

the fool boy Shiplo (some dude), Wednesday, 15 July 2009 05:01 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 18 July 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

"The Boss" (featuring T-Pain). There was a split second of considering "Hustlin," but then I remembered that moment in the bridge where the drums cut out and just leave the slow-start vocal sample and then Pain goes "ay!" and the subs come back in and its like goddamn

BIG HOOS's wacky crack variety hour (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Saturday, 18 July 2009 23:19 (sixteen years ago)

ross is the worst part about "The Boss" imo i would do like I did with shawty and edit myself a version that just cuts him out

BIG HOOS's wacky crack variety hour (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Saturday, 18 July 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

whereas he is obv the best part about "Hustlin" next to the sample itself

BIG HOOS's wacky crack variety hour (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Saturday, 18 July 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

srsly on certain days that vocal sample in Boss is basically my favorite shit in the whole damn universe

BIG HOOS's wacky crack variety hour (BIG HOOS aka the steendriver), Saturday, 18 July 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

I don't know why the fuck they didn't put out "Lay Back with Robin Thicke before the summer, it's been months since magnificent and Maychbach hsnt even had a video yet. "Lay Back" could have been a summer jam IMO

that song rules

ten months pass...

The new single, "Super High," seems like the ultimate in Yacht Rap. Also, the video demonstrates the frighteningly Dorian Grey-esque agelessness of Stacey Dash, who plays Ross's babe.

agree but not just yet imo

flopson, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 21:03 (fourteen years ago)

might still vote for "the boss"

flopson, Wednesday, 29 February 2012 21:05 (fourteen years ago)

if we re-ran and I was to answer honestly it'd be a boring, predictable answer ("B.M.F.", which still makes me go nuts). Or "I'm not a Star" maybe.

Bo Jackson Overdrive, Thursday, 1 March 2012 01:57 (fourteen years ago)

what about such instant classics as "9 piece" and "you da boss"?

love how the chorus of "the boss" doesn't preclude the existence of bigger bosses

flopson, Wednesday, 12 February 2014 06:15 (twelve years ago)

one of the weirdest revelations of "drunk in love" is that beyonce and jay-z paraphrase rick ross in their foreplay

ricky couldn't buy himself a hit for like 3 years but he's got two new songs in the hot 100 this week

le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:27 (eleven years ago)

Is "Sanctified" one of them?

Murgatroid, Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:29 (eleven years ago)

the #1 album having multiple songs in the Hot 100 is a non-story, that's pretty much every week.

some dude, Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:31 (eleven years ago)

the best song on this is the ~2 min joint w/ french montana

eh the whole thing is kinda interesting to me. obv digital album sales boost digital single sales by nature but "devil is a lie" was an instant flop (or so it seemed)

le goon (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:46 (eleven years ago)

i mean...if your Jay-Z-featuring lead single takes 3 months to chart, and only through downloads on release week (and lower than the Kanye-featuring album track)...it still is a flop.

some dude, Thursday, 13 March 2014 16:55 (eleven years ago)

List reminds me that dude has barely any singles I like, only mess with "Hustlin'" (remix has a fuller beat iirc) and "Speedin'" so Runners FTW I guess

whole alternating smoove R&B/bland attempted bangers sound of Deeper Than Rap and Teflon Don never did anything for me

nova, Thursday, 13 March 2014 20:38 (eleven years ago)

stunned dmx never hit top ten, surprised at dave matthews as well

balls, Saturday, 15 March 2014 05:59 (eleven years ago)

DMX and Rick Ross's career peaks kind of bookend the (in retrospect, pretty brief) period in which "street rap" guys could get top 10 hits without catering to pop radio. Like, if their biggest songs came out at the same time as "Lean Back" or "What You Know," they'd probably have some top 10s.

I just found out an actress friend of mine is both the voice of the operator AND the 9-1-1 caller on this track. it's funny as she's a sweet 50-something who has done voice acting for years and like she has little connection to rap music and she posts about it on FB and her feed is blowing up now, lol.

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 16:33 (eleven years ago)

mastermind worth checkin out?

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 16:33 (eleven years ago)

I like it and I've liked 0 of Ross's past albums. everyone seems pretty mixed on it tho, maybe a difference in perception if you're already a fan

this + the Pharrell album dropping on the same day reminds me of the summer Carter III and the new N.E.R.D came out at the same time. although not as good.

nova, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 18:56 (eleven years ago)

I thought it was pretty good production-wise, even if it felt even more vacant and unrewarding than usual from a songwriting standpoint

CANS.... and D? (some dude), Wednesday, 2 April 2014 20:43 (eleven years ago)

Yeah I've never bought into Ross as a dope rapper. Flow's still pretty avg IMO even if he's improved

nova, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 21:36 (eleven years ago)

I think his flow is fine for the beats he gets; voice, well, that one's often more polarizing.

Lyrically, the guy's appeal will likely never extend beyond his cartoonish crime-lord persona, but damned if he isn't entertaining. His lyrics really underwent significant improvement from his Port of Miami days. He lacks the insight and penetrating abilities of some top-tier gangsta rappers (like Scarface, early Jay-Z, Biggie), and probably has a lower ceiling than others, but he manages to rap about his limited scope in entertaining ways. When he stays in his lane, he does well.

Lord help us if he ever tries to release a Life After Death though

Neanderthal, Wednesday, 2 April 2014 21:43 (eleven years ago)

it's kind of cute on the opening track that Ross thinks Bo Jackson was a switch hitter, or just pretends to so his simile will work...

Neanderthal, Friday, 4 April 2014 02:17 (eleven years ago)

first few listens, seems fairly autopilot and dull. (yea, there are three of you at least ready to leap and say "AND THIS IS DIFF HOW?").

idk...maybe it'll grow on me
