Apparently, the ten best Norwegian album covers ever ever are to be picked from 40 nominees to decorate the façade of, yes, "Rockheim" in Trondheim. This is clearly a decision far too momentous to leave to readers of Norwegian webpapers alone, so you are all invited to cast a vote for what you think is erm least horrible of the candidates HERE:
http://www.adressa.no/kultur/article1350603.ece
NB DON'T CLICK on a title before you have decided. Click on the thumbnails to get CD-sized pictures, then on text to vote. I think.
Clue to covers without text, with A-C on the horizontal axis and 1-13 on the vertical (from the top): A3 is Wenche Myhre. B5 isn't even in the poll. C6 is Junipher Greene.

That Pussycats one is pretty nice. Anyone know if that album is any good?

This is also the thread for posting Norwegian album covers that are better than the ones that were "nominated" by some shady and iniquitous process. Geir, you know more about this than me, go!
Me, I voted DePress, so obv I also like Holy Toy: http://merlin.pl/Warszawa_Holy-Toy,images_product,18,P4966532.jpg
Hmph they didn't even get the correct Raga Rockers one: http://www.rockeweb.com/raga-r1.jpg
Would you guess Return was an 80s hair metal band? I expect that cover may have stood in the way of http://g-ecx.images-amazon.com/images/G/01/ciu/a2/8b/fad9124128a0e2ec22e99010.L.jpg

I am pissed off they didn't even include "Scoundrel Days", which is a terrific album with a terrific cover. But voted "Materialtretthet" then. May not make that much sense if you don't know the lozenger box that influenced it, but Norwegians do.

Rather competent mid 60s Beatles-influenced "beat" music. Not at all bad.
And if you are in doubt about Return actually being 80s hair metal, then there's always this cover: http://www.heavyharmonies.com/cdcovers/R/RETURN2.JPG

No Aske, no credibility.

Yup. Also TAV's next album, Disniland i de tusen hjem merits an honourable mention I think.

Kinda WTFing at there not being one Kim Hiorthoy sleeve in here let alone, like, almost all of them but maybe I'm overestimating how much anyone might care about Rune Grammofon and that

My copy of Jaga Jazzist's The Stix comes in a completely different cover, viz:

No, that's a good point actually.
― anatol_merklich, Friday, 17 July 2009 09:36 (sixteen years ago)
No Rune Grammofon, no credibility.
Geir, could you pop round to Rockheim and complain? Thanks.

Meet The Playmates is the standout - scary, rather than playful! What did they sound like?
― Soukesian, Friday, 17 July 2009 19:14 (sixteen years ago)
Well... It's 530 kilometres.... :)
Plus chances are I might get involved in a project with Rockheim's Oslo rival opening next year. :)

What Norwegian record companies do to make old albums seem new! and exciting!:

That Sony re-release series was a good idea on paper, which come out not too good because
1. The majority of the releases were albums that were already available on CD in the shops2. They had this need to make the covers seem like copies bought on the street in Manila instead of looking like the actual albums
― Geir Hongro, Friday, 17 July 2009 23:55 (sixteen years ago)
2. Yah.
Though --- we weren't exactly spoiled with the 1st CD issues of stuff either back in the days -- inlay = 1 (one) sheet with generic-type track listing; argh again. Fucking cottage industry rubbish. :\ :| :/

Still, I am not complaining about finally having "Jive Talking", "Pleasant Surprise" and that George Keller debut on CD. But the package was still way below impressive.
― Geir Hongro, Saturday, 18 July 2009 00:24 (sixteen years ago)
Enough negativity! Not in any way world-class great, but better than approximately many percent of the ones nominated:
