i was listening to a station here in Los Angeles called the Sound and they just finished playing a Psychedelic Furs song and said "They along with the Happy Mondays are going to play Club Nokia on September 18, 2009"

ned i think you're right and fair as far as the furs go, but i admit to some curiosity about the possibility of seeing (some iteration of) the mondays. might be enough to get me out, depending how much it is and all.

Meantime, I'm looking forward to the imminent Cure tour. Am I any less willingly complicit?

Ned, as much as you stick by the article, there is this line. So, personal preference aside, what makes a Furs tour in 2009 any more nostalgic, familiar and ultimately unnecessary than the Cure shows last summer (which I personally loved and recall you did as well)?

Cure still an active band creating new material and pull a live audience who actually buy it, even if they don't play it more than three times

I'd argue it's still more nostalgia than fresh approach, given the band plays far more songs from Disintegration alone than their most recent album at any given time.

I saw the Mondays at Glasto circa 2000 or so, they were fucking awful. Can't really imagine they'll be much better now.

i don't expect they'd be good, but the inherent unpredictability of anything involving shaun ryder means they might be more interesting than your normal nostalgia act.

That video was very sad for me to watch. i still feel bad for his daughter, who i think is named Jail. God I hope it's spelled different than it sounds.

First Love Spit Love a good continuation of those two albums as well. Buried by history and changing taste.

The difference between the Mondays and the Cure live is that the Cure are seasoned pros well beyond the Mondays and put on a live show that reflects that experience, saw them for Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me and again for Blood Flowers, both times phenomenal shows. Still, BEZ AND RYDER 4EVAR!

john are these the only two furs albums you know or do you just mean "on the strength of" them being their best albums

Does anyone have the Long Version of House by the Furs? I'm desperately searching for it but not having any luck.

Curiosa 2004, I remember they played maybe 3 new songs and 5+ from Disintegration.

The recent 2008 tour was even worse, statistically speaking. Lots of old stuff.

I didn't see Curiosa because I had no interest in seeing the other bands.

The recent 2008 tour happened before the album came out but they still played all four of the new singles in Boston.

What a truly strange and somewhat depressing double-bill.

Book of Days really is a remarkable album -- after the Midnight to Midnight cowflop, rebounding with "All That Money Wants" for the first greatest hits collection and then said album was inspiring.

I did hear "Should God Forget" for the first time in years the other day and it sounded good: the old Spector-and-phlegm sound given the college try.

saw this last Thursday, Mondays were fucking horrible. it's just Shaun + a bunch of young session musicians. no bez. too much Unkle Dysfunktional & Black Grape material. I left after 30 mins.

They were on a "Haunted House" programme a week ago (it was on TV then, that is)

My guess is, they wouldn't cop out if it was a UK tour, as Bez is fairly fundamental.

Whereas in the USA, they probably are less bothered.
