"Junk" has a title that would be more apt on most of the other tracks here. So I am voting for that. Of course "Maybe I'm Amazed" is amazing too.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 17 July 2009 23:11 (sixteen years ago)

I can never keep any of these songs straight, apart from the more obvious ones.

Bizarro Morbius (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 17 July 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

amazed beats out junk for me, I also really like "man we was lonely"

akm, Friday, 17 July 2009 23:22 (sixteen years ago)

Waiting to see ILM's more ludicrous contrarian votes on this one...

PappaWheelie V, Friday, 17 July 2009 23:33 (sixteen years ago)

I really like the knockabout version of ''Teddy Boy'' on the Beatles Anthology with Lennon gibbering bollocks all over it but the versh on 'Mccartney' is as dull as a wet weekend in the Mull of Kintyre.

I think it's a little snapshot of how they could elevate each others slightly uninspired, run-of-the-mill tunes and give them that WEIRDY GOLDDUSTY BEATULZ MAGIK.

Humphrey Plugg, Sunday, 19 July 2009 09:39 (sixteen years ago)

"Every Night" ftw!

Mark G, Sunday, 19 July 2009 10:49 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, this is between, "Junk" and "Every Night" for me, so I went with the latter, as the former won't need my help.

I am moving on baby, I am moving on (Pancakes Hackman), Sunday, 19 July 2009 14:03 (sixteen years ago)

"Maybe I'm Amazed." Love his solo too.

Heric E. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 19 July 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, this is between, "Junk" and "Every Night" for me, so I went with the latter, as the former won't need my help.

Pretty certain "Maybe I'm Amazed" is the one that will win though. "Every Night" may well be my third choice here.

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

hahaha good results.. although "That Would Be Something" isn't so bad.

billstevejim, Saturday, 25 July 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

Also good guitar riff on "Oo You."

billstevejim, Saturday, 25 July 2009 01:02 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, "That Would Be Something" wuz robbed.

Horace Silver Machine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 25 July 2009 01:33 (sixteen years ago)

I wouldn't go that far.

billstevejim, Sunday, 26 July 2009 04:42 (sixteen years ago)

It's alright, but not as good as "Every Night". This album is definitely way short on good tracks but as a whole it's actually fairly enjoyable. i think that's how i feel about McCartney in general.

myndbloom, Sunday, 26 July 2009 05:12 (sixteen years ago)

Missed this one; would have voted for "Momma Miss America" not so much out of contrarianism as just wanting to give a little love to the jams, of which that one's my favorite. Haven't listened to this one in way too long. Good album though.

sixteen years pass...

Tough crowd for one of my favorite albums of all time...

"That Would Be Something" got robbed

budo jeru, Saturday, 3 January 2026 15:53 (two months ago)

The drumming on this thing is godly.

Yes I love Ringo too, but pretty much all the ideas for fills and off-kilter rhythms were Paul's, right? I remember seeing a scene of that sort in Get Back and thinking, "Yeah, THAT figures." (Due for a Get Back rewatch, come to think of it.)

TheNuNuNu, Tuesday, 20 January 2026 15:11 (two months ago)

McCartney? Not even the best drummer in Wings.

Nope. See: "Rain," "A Day in the Life..."

The Luda of Suburbia (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 15:26 (two months ago)

Is it documented that Ringo came up with those parts?

I always thought it was weird that Ringo's drumming on his own stuff is pedestrian.

TheNuNuNu, Tuesday, 20 January 2026 15:29 (two months ago)

Yup!

The Luda of Suburbia (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 15:31 (two months ago)

Lewisohn? or elsewhere?

I'm not trying to raise people's hackles, I'm genuinely seeking info. Ringo is one of my favorites of all time, but I hear more of the things that I love about Ringo's Beatles performances in the McCartney album than I do in Plastic Ono Band.

TheNuNuNu, Tuesday, 20 January 2026 15:35 (two months ago)

Let alone Ringo '73.

TheNuNuNu, Tuesday, 20 January 2026 15:36 (two months ago)

Tim Riley, Ian McDonald, to name two. Paul did direct Ringo on how to play the rolls in "Ticket to Ride.>"

The Luda of Suburbia (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 15:36 (two months ago)

The other album called Plastic Ono Band has probably my fav Ringo drumming on it - still not really comparable to his Beatles drumming albeit.

For a long time Ringo-bashing was the fast track to some sort of ersatz muso credibility. These days I've trained myself to just try to ignore it when it still occurs.

Eric Blore Is President (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 16:18 (two months ago)

And yeah, he seems to have pulled back from the interesting fills in later years, perhaps because there was less studio time at his disposal?

Eric Blore Is President (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 16:21 (two months ago)

I don't think TheNunu was bashing Ringo, but they did undermine his agency. Even if someone else had suggested how to play more complex parts RINGO played them, not Paul or Jim Keltner or whoever (I don't think Paul could've played "Rain" with Ringo's sense of timing). Band songwriters give suggestions to fellow players all the time

The Luda of Suburbia (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 16:23 (two months ago)

Wish I could find the video of George saying "Ringo's got the best backbeat I've ever heard, him and Levon Helm of The Band."

Eric Blore Is President (James Redd and the Blecchs), Tuesday, 20 January 2026 16:27 (two months ago)

Tbf, the drumming on "Rain" is pretty loose, but in the best possible way. I'd not heard it, but here's the take in real time, before they slowed it down!
