i wish i was clever enough to postulate as to why these tracks are 80s idm, instead i'm just gonna post youtubes. i guess the thread is about 80s dance music that aims for something slightly beyond the dancefloor, not necessarily shit that sounds like autechre

fad gadget "handshake": it's the "dub" version of "ricky's hand", everything stripped back to highlight the clangourous ping-ponging noises and echoing gasps of steam. finishes with an irreverent synth flourish as if to reward the end of a particularly arduous video game level

First thing I thought of was those Monoton records. This one came out in '82 and was reissued a few years back. It's very minimal/dubby in a pristine idm way.
