UK Top 40, w/e 25/11/1995

So following on from Crystal Waters' triumph last week, this week we're gonna poll the top 40 that contained her last solo UK hit (it's at #37). There's a slightly greater array of stinkers than in the previous polls, but there's at least one (to my ears) utter jewel ensconced within the confines too... will that be the one that wins out? We shall see.

Anyway - which is the best?

I had no idea that Whale song ever got so high in the charts.

nate woolls, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 08:19 (sixteen years ago)

"He's On The Phone" followed by a tie between "Missing", "Boombastic".

I have a sneaking fondness for "Wrap Me Up".

Hobo Humpin was featured in that shitty follow up to Donnie Darko, one of the only good things about that film.

The Rolling Stones - Like A Rolling Stone

Was this their last top 40 entry? (to date, obviously, but probably their last until Jagger pops it)

Mark G, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 08:49 (sixteen years ago)

no they've had 6 since then (inc. the Sympathy remix)

You know, this is a pretty shit chart.

challop matters (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 12:15 (sixteen years ago)

Apart from "Missing" (winner by default) and "Boombastic".

challop matters (King Boy Pato), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 12:16 (sixteen years ago)

Not a great list, but there sure was a lot more fun/weird stuff charting back in the day.

But yeah, Boombastic all the way. I even grudgingly liked it at the time, and in 95 my musical horizons were bordered by Metallica and Megadeth.

chap, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 12:49 (sixteen years ago)

Easily "Wonderwall". One of the greatest songs ever.

Geir Hongro, Wednesday, 22 July 2009 19:15 (sixteen years ago)

If Pizzaman's "Happiness" doesn't make you happy then bollocks to you, frankly.

Juggalo Soldier (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 19:18 (sixteen years ago)

Tempted to vote Smokie, tho.

There's a lot of cack on here. I shall probly vote Pizzaman but could happily go with St. Et, EbtG, Simply Red or Shaggy.

Juggalo Soldier (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 19:20 (sixteen years ago)

Given my age I can't not vote for Gangsta's Paradise.

kind-hearted, sensitive keytar player (Abbott), Wednesday, 22 July 2009 19:22 (sixteen years ago)

Falls into the "great but I don't need to hear it ever again" camp for me.

unban dictionary (blueski), Wednesday, 29 July 2009 00:42 (sixteen years ago)

A lot of good acts releasing mediocre or worse stuff which only the hardcore fans bought. Very happy with the winner.

DJ Angoreinhardt (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 29 July 2009 07:33 (sixteen years ago)

oh, and that remix version..

"yes.... (ah!)"
