Oh come on, this is totally the best Stereolab album.

I dug out Jenny Ondioline for my "5 U Must Hear" and was still amazed by it (it never feels as LONG as it is) but I'm probably going to vote for Pack Yr Romantic Mind (oh! the way it swings from that lovely radiophonic easy listening to the sudden bursts of clanging dronerock noise) or I'm Going Out Of My Way for those lovely organ stabs.

No, fuck it. Listening this morning, it's Jenny Ondioline in a heartbeat.

This is one of those records for me that just rolls along as a singluar thing -- hard to think of picking one song out of the whole. But I guess Jenny would take it. If the version of "Golden Ball" from the J.O. ep was on here instead of this one, it'd be a harder decision.

Love it all, but when I heard Jenny for the first time, it brought my world to a stop. I had to pull over while driving and just listen. So Jenny without hesitation.

Jenny Ondioline, but it has an unfair advantage, in that it lasts so long. I will take this opportunity to give props to 'Fruition' off the 'Jenny Ondioline' EP though, that's up there with the best things they ever did.

I can't pick. I love this album.

Anyone seen this video of Stereolab influences? Not sure about the accuracy but it's interesting. I think this video turned me on to "Hallogallo" (I know, noob).

To elaborate my the PYRM vs. GB dilemma: Aside from objectively being my favorite tracks on this album, they neatly encapsulate the two main phases of the 90s Stereolab sound, loungy 60s-cinema-soundtrack space-pop & krautish repeat-o-rock. Stereolab pretty much owned both styles back then & this is the first record they released where such distinctions became especially notable.

I'm going w/ "Golden Ball," if only for the little "fluff on the needle" dip in the middle of the song which gives way to louder, harder chords & Laetitia's unprocessed vocals coming in. Simply masterful building of tension w/ awesome payoff! Gives me the spine chills every time..

Can't believe this one passed me by. Attempting to be a Stereolab completist 91-97 seemed like such a punishing task that I didn't even try. I did/do have the various Switched On comps. Is it on one of those? If so, I don't recall it.

Anyroad, might have voted for "the greater is the beauty" but I cannae remember which one that is.

One of my fav video boots is one of Stereolab playing at the Rough trade shop, it's filmed from 'stage' side, so it actually feels like you are in the band.

Someone from the band asks Tim 'what's next'? Tim says, (e.g.) Parsec, to which the band member says "um, how does that one go?"

WHICH IS EXACTLY HOW I WOULD DREAM BEING ONE OF STEREOLAB WOULD HAVE GONE!

The first Stereolab record I bought was Space Age Bachelor-Pad Music, which is good & all, but I have to respectfully disagree with your theory.

I learned while refreshing my memory that "Pack Yr Romantic Mind" is by FAR the most streamed track now, which I didn't expect. I guess it hints at future developments and may be especially appealing if working backwards from the commercial peak of ETK/D&L...

Jenny O excluded, my fave would probably be "Golden Ball," I love the bit when it glitches out in the middle and then the stereo image is reversed (?)
