fuck YES does this album rule

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 26 July 2009 08:41 (fifteen years ago)

could never decide but probably go with title track due to similarity with Kool and the Gnag guitar licks

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 26 July 2009 08:42 (fifteen years ago)

I think i read once that Byron Coley said this was one of his all-time fave albums ? mebbe I dreamed it, but i feel kinda confident about that

follow-on, though: Mystery to Me is still better ...

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 26 July 2009 08:45 (fifteen years ago)

poor Danny Kirwan, he was such a talent. wherever he is in the world right now, i hope he is at least at comfort

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 26 July 2009 08:46 (fifteen years ago)

the cover is one of my favourite record covers ever.... never heard the actual record... too scared to in case it sucks..

Jack Battery-Pack, Sunday, 26 July 2009 09:08 (fifteen years ago)

it's very far from sucking.

I was considering the ghost, sentimental lady, sunny side of heaven or spare me a little, but ended up also going Dust

wilter, Sunday, 26 July 2009 21:34 (fifteen years ago)

yeah this is a record so dope that a song as strong as 'child of mine' probably won't be able to compete with several others.

omar little, Sunday, 26 July 2009 22:02 (fifteen years ago)

I bought this record a year ago, but really didn't listen to it, so thanks to this thread listening to it now - it's great. I'll vote later. On a slightly related topic, has anyone heard this? I've tried to get it from iTunes and other places a few times but failed:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3e/Endofthegame.jpg

This is a single from just before it, which is well cool, with added Jimmy Saville:

As for the album, Wikipedia basically says it's loads of boring jams. Allmusic gives it one star and everyone on Amazon slags it off, but check out that track and the sleeve, I mean it's bound to be great.

Keith, Sunday, 26 July 2009 22:12 (fifteen years ago)

i might vote 'child of mine' but this album is an awesome entity

m coleman, Sunday, 26 July 2009 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

Haven't heard it either - I always found it a bit strange that it seemed to have so little to do with the famous Fleetwood Macs on either side. Went with 'Danny's Chant' for the title. I imagine it as a proto 'We Will Rock You', or maybe early Spandau Ballet.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 26 July 2009 22:16 (fifteen years ago)

guess again

m coleman, Sunday, 26 July 2009 22:18 (fifteen years ago)

Got to be an outtake from 'Born In The USA' then.

Ismael Klata, Sunday, 26 July 2009 22:23 (fifteen years ago)

yuh the guitar in Child of Mine is amazinggg

as is the sleeve Keith posted

wilter, Sunday, 26 July 2009 22:48 (fifteen years ago)

goin for "sunny side of heaven".. that "end of the game" album is pretty awful, as i recall, but that could just be because the mac stuff before is so so so much better.

winston, Sunday, 26 July 2009 23:38 (fifteen years ago)

we should do a future games poll

winston, Sunday, 26 July 2009 23:38 (fifteen years ago)

This was my favorite album of theirs for years, until Mystery To Me gave me 2nd thoughts.

I do love the start of Danny's Chant, but have to go for Dust.

dlp9001, Monday, 27 July 2009 03:39 (fifteen years ago)

Luv that album cover!

Voted for title cut (which, for all I know, may have found its way into MX-80 Sound's "You're Not Alone")

Stop wishing death on people just for the cool thread titles (Myonga Vön Bontee), Monday, 27 July 2009 14:17 (fifteen years ago)

"Sunny Side of Heaven" is so beautiful. First song I was ever obsessed enough to learn to play note-for-note on the guitar.

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Monday, 27 July 2009 14:20 (fifteen years ago)

voted title track

m coleman, Sunday, 2 August 2009 15:59 (fifteen years ago)

On a slightly related topic, has anyone heard this?

end of the game is awesome. very spaced-out guitar jammage.

pretzel walrus, Sunday, 2 August 2009 21:43 (fifteen years ago)

that "end of the game" album is pretty awful

False. It's fiery, psychedelic, and exciting. And it can be found used for reasonable prices.

"Sunny Side Of Heaven" earns my vote, btw.

inhibitionist, Monday, 3 August 2009 03:02 (fifteen years ago)

yuh i'm going to try to pick that one up now btw.

you can still vote in ilx polls once a day y/n?

voted for the ghost this time, fwiw.

Love Kirwan so much. Article is dead wrong about Second Chapter imo.

cwkiii, Tuesday, 3 November 2015 12:56 (nine years ago)

six months pass...

Their most underrated record... 'Sentimental Lady', 'Sunny Side of Heaven'... just beautiful stuff.

Turrican, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 01:59 (nine years ago)

"Dust"!

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 31 May 2016 02:24 (nine years ago)

Has there ever been a decent anthology/compilation put out of the post-Green, pre-Buckingham Nicks years?

Turrican, Tuesday, 31 May 2016 18:39 (nine years ago)

The only semi-official thing I've ever found is that weird Madison Blues album, and then various live shows scattered around (I think I remember that Wolfgang's Vault used to have some interesting ones...I wonder where they've ended up).

dlp9001, Wednesday, 1 June 2016 03:15 (nine years ago)

I wish Mick and John would acknowledge these years a little more - there's some great stuff on those albums. Without this era, there wouldn't have been a Buckingham-Nicks era.

Turrican, Wednesday, 1 June 2016 17:31 (nine years ago)

"Sunny Side of Heaven"! Lives up to its title.

tylerw, Wednesday, 1 June 2016 17:35 (nine years ago)

Yup! It's the one I would have voted for.

Turrican, Wednesday, 1 June 2016 17:45 (nine years ago)

There are some weird live moments with early Buckingham/Nicks playing songs from this era, before they realized that they were the future of the band. I know they do "Oh Well" but that's kind of different.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 1 June 2016 17:53 (nine years ago)

Nice to know that Nicks and Buckingham had no hard feelings.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 1 June 2016 18:25 (nine years ago)

I have a bootleg, Rockhoppers Live from 1976, with Buckingham/Nicks doing Station Man, Spare Me A Little and Hypnotized alongside Rhiannon, Landslide etc.

Double Nickels on the Pecunidigm (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 1 June 2016 18:32 (nine years ago)

on the '88 world tour the band was still performing Welsh-Kirwan era tunes.

The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 1 June 2016 18:32 (nine years ago)

this was a good record but I like Future Days a whole lot more.
