I refuse not to count this as an album proper, because it is actually among their best albums.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 30 July 2009 23:04 (fifteen years ago)

Between the three singles, I guess. No idea which of them will win, although I kind of expect "Lovecats" maybe.
Not in doubt about my vote, as "Let's Go To Bed" is IMO the best thing The Cure have ever done.

Geir Hongro, Thursday, 30 July 2009 23:04 (fifteen years ago)

These (particularly the "Let's go to bed) 12" started as a solo Robert Smith project, after the Cure had supposedly split.

He called up Lol "LOL" Tolhurst to help out and be in the video, and before you know it....

Mark G, Thursday, 30 July 2009 23:09 (fifteen years ago)

Hmm...that story is part of the Robert Smith myth-making I've heard

Bob Six, Thursday, 30 July 2009 23:12 (fifteen years ago)

i felt i ought to vote 'lament', for some reason, but i couldn't remember what it sounded like, whereas the title of 'speak my language' is kind of an earworm, so i voted for that. if i was being honest with myself i would vote for lovecats obv

thomp, Thursday, 30 July 2009 23:15 (fifteen years ago)

The Upstairs Room

Bob Six, Thursday, 30 July 2009 23:16 (fifteen years ago)

sure do love just one kiss

pretzel walrus, Thursday, 30 July 2009 23:53 (fifteen years ago)

ugh wtf @ POLLcats

geir why do you have to put the word 'poll' in every fucking poll title, this thing is srsly the one thing on ILX that makes me want to kill

a muttering inbred (called) (not named) (Abbott), Friday, 31 July 2009 00:29 (fifteen years ago)

btw this album is basically perfect

a muttering inbred (called) (not named) (Abbott), Friday, 31 July 2009 00:30 (fifteen years ago)

you could have at least saved pollcats for a polecats poll. but everyone already knows that make a circuit with me was their one moment of brilliance.

scott seward, Friday, 31 July 2009 01:32 (fifteen years ago)

we need a poll on worst geir cure poll title - this is pretty terrible but i'm not sure it's worse than "it's friday i'm a POLL"

pretzel walrus, Friday, 31 July 2009 02:09 (fifteen years ago)

(note: we do not actually need this)

pretzel walrus, Friday, 31 July 2009 02:14 (fifteen years ago)

"sure do love just one kiss"

yeah this or lament - i still love the morose sounding ones - even on a pop-y singles rec. leaning towards lament for the his guitar lines. really yearning and pretty

sknybrg, Friday, 31 July 2009 03:14 (fifteen years ago)

impossible!

Bee OK, Friday, 31 July 2009 03:32 (fifteen years ago)

Yeah. Impossible to pick one. I give up - the entire album's excellent.

They should've worked some more with Steve Nye. He gave the tracks he produced here such an odd, unique vibe.

Marcus Brody Ta-Dow! (Capitaine Jay Vee), Friday, 31 July 2009 03:40 (fifteen years ago)

Toss-up btw 'Just One Kiss' and 'Upstairs Room' - I think objectively the former is just untouchable, but I have strong nostalgic associations to 'Upstairs Room'

Gigolo Grasiento (baaderonixx), Friday, 31 July 2009 07:31 (fifteen years ago)

that whole section "you sister started talking just a minute after ten" - so great

Gigolo Grasiento (baaderonixx), Friday, 31 July 2009 07:32 (fifteen years ago)

i didn't realise all the POLL thread titles were geir

i kind of like "it's friday, i'm a poll"

thomp, Friday, 31 July 2009 11:47 (fifteen years ago)

I love the Geir POLL titles! Please never take them away from me.

Joerg Hi Dere (NickB), Friday, 31 July 2009 11:56 (fifteen years ago)

Me too

Bob Six, Friday, 31 July 2009 12:09 (fifteen years ago)

a muttering inbred (called) (not named) (Abbott), Friday, 31 July 2009 17:46 (fifteen years ago)

a muttering inbred (called) (not named) (Abbott), Friday, 31 July 2009 17:57 (fifteen years ago)

Good god. (I'm with Abbott.)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 31 July 2009 18:00 (fifteen years ago)

Be glad I didn't do the whole song!

Four-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! (HI DERE), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

I'm probably having chicken and baked beans for Poller ToPoll.

a muttering inbred (called) (not named) (Abbott), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:03 (fifteen years ago)

am i lame for voting for "the walk"? i'm having a hard time remembering a couple of these. also, am i lame for really liking mixed up?

(i probably haven't listened to it since like'98 tho)

^prizes the praise of the media, and the Europeans (will), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:07 (fifteen years ago)

Ha I have listened to Mixed Up so much.

a muttering inbred (called) (not named) (Abbott), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:12 (fifteen years ago)

this is pretty much my favorite cure too, next to pornography I guess. the top three for me are the walk, let's go to bed & lovecats even though I had many more emo nights on the dance floor with the first two lovecats is just so so great & I remember being most floored by it when it was new - like, this band is just invincible right now, was my feeling.

the evil genius of Zaiger Genetics (J0hn D.), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

let's go to bed

akm, Friday, 31 July 2009 18:19 (fifteen years ago)

"The Lovecats" is the best of the singles but nothing can stand up to "Lament" in my eyes.

Four-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! (HI DERE), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:20 (fifteen years ago)

you could have at least saved pollcats for a polecats poll. but everyone already knows that make a circuit with me was their one moment of brilliance.

― scott seward, Thursday, July 30, 2009 9:32 PM

Ha. Agree with this, but maybe you didn't know, Scott, that some of these guys later went on to become stalwarts in Morrissey's backing band. Or maybe you did know.

Horace Silver Machine (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:25 (fifteen years ago)

i didn't realise all the POLL thread titles were geir

No, they aren't. Not at all.

Btw. I am most satisfied with the McCartney poll titles I have come up with until now. :)

Geir Hongro, Friday, 31 July 2009 22:11 (fifteen years ago)

am i lame for voting for "the walk"?

Not unless I'm lame too...love all of it but "The Walk" is where it's at for me.

Sean Carruthers, Friday, 31 July 2009 23:44 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Saturday, 1 August 2009 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Sunday, 2 August 2009 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

The one time I heard this album, I couldn't get past how completely it rips off the band Japan. Does this bother anybody else?

I'll check it out again.

Patrick South, Sunday, 2 August 2009 23:06 (fifteen years ago)

Not sure how I missed this poll, though I'd have added another vote for "Let's Go to Bed" -- one of my fave Cure singles!

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Monday, 3 August 2009 02:09 (fifteen years ago)

Wd have voted Lament, missed this though.
