Take Me Home EASY LOVER

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 31 July 2009 01:01 (fifteen years ago)

"Against All Odds". Besides "In The Air Tonight", it is in a league of its own here. Three of his better singles are not included here though, namely "If Leaving Me Is Easy", "Thru These Walls" and "Don't Let Him Steal Your Heart Away".

Geir Hongro, Friday, 31 July 2009 01:02 (fifteen years ago)

Why is "Against All Odds" on there twice?

Mr. Snrub, Friday, 31 July 2009 01:02 (fifteen years ago)

"take me home" vs. "against all odds." phil could really bring it when he could get it up

kamerad, Friday, 31 July 2009 01:08 (fifteen years ago)

Ah, this poll is bringing back fond memories of the Phil Collins FAQ thread

Voted for 'In the Air Tonight', just because linear reverb is talked about so much in my mixing classes that I think I'm biased.

drainCosmetics, Friday, 31 July 2009 01:21 (fifteen years ago)

Yes, that's right. Linear reverb is coming back bitches.

drainCosmetics, Friday, 31 July 2009 01:22 (fifteen years ago)

AGAINST ALL ODDS

I love rainbow cookies (surm), Friday, 31 July 2009 01:24 (fifteen years ago)

Why is "Against All Odds" on there twice?

It's good enough to mention twice.

Heric E. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 July 2009 01:28 (fifteen years ago)

No Another Day in Paradise, no credibility

kornrulez6969, Friday, 31 July 2009 14:04 (fifteen years ago)

of the eligible candidates, only one has philip bailey on it

not rocket science ppl

Trey Tsongas (J0hn D.), Friday, 31 July 2009 14:08 (fifteen years ago)

sussudio is underrated

SNaKaTTaK (goole), Friday, 31 July 2009 14:12 (fifteen years ago)

I forgot about "I Don't Care Anymore"!

It terrifies me a little, how many of theses songs I really like.

Four-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! (HI DERE), Friday, 31 July 2009 14:13 (fifteen years ago)

got it narrowd down to three:

I Missed Again
Easy Lover (w/Philip Bailey)
Take Me Home

^prizes the praise of the media, and the Europeans (will), Friday, 31 July 2009 14:22 (fifteen years ago)

It terrifies me a little, how many of theses songs I really like.

Because he has been generally crap since the late 80s, people forget how good some of the earlier solo stuff actually was.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 31 July 2009 14:27 (fifteen years ago)

Where the fuck is Another Day In Paradise? Now, don't get me wrong, this isn't a great song but when I got my first radio (and my first ever record Now 17) this was the PHil Collins song that was on the radio, and was covered in an Italo-House stylee by some band or other. I always liked the little synth riff, and I always found it laughable that Tory boy Collins was singing about helping the homeless.

dog latin, Friday, 31 July 2009 14:34 (fifteen years ago)

I haven't forgotten. The first 3 albums, and all his soundtrack/one-off singles prior to ...But Seriously are much beloved. xp

Johnny Fever, Friday, 31 July 2009 14:34 (fifteen years ago)

There are obviously way too many 90s singles here. Should have made space for some more earlier ones instead.

Geir Hongro, Friday, 31 July 2009 16:22 (fifteen years ago)

dog latin you are wrong, "Another Day In Paradise" is a fucking excellent song.

a muttering inbred (called) (not named) (Abbott), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:01 (fifteen years ago)

"against all odds" easy

john q. lazzarus (donna rouge), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

Which one, though?

Four-TEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEN! (HI DERE), Friday, 31 July 2009 18:05 (fifteen years ago)

there are exactly four great songs on here: in the air, take me home, against all odds, and I don't care anymore. the rest are all so fucking horrible it's difficult to even think about them.

akm, Friday, 31 July 2009 18:14 (fifteen years ago)

there are exactly four great songs on here: in the air, take me home, against all odds, and I don't care anymore. the rest are all so fucking horrible it's difficult to even think about them.

The "No Jacket Required" singles are all great. Also "Two Hearts"

Geir Hongro, Friday, 31 July 2009 22:14 (fifteen years ago)

lots of good phil collins jams, but "in the air tonight" is one of my favorite songs of all time so that has to get the vote. i can't really explain why i love PC so much (i even love his era of Genesis!), but i do. very weird.

pipecock, Saturday, 1 August 2009 16:31 (fifteen years ago)

"Easy Lover" I think.

Calamari Merkin (Noodle Vague), Saturday, 1 August 2009 16:32 (fifteen years ago)

"In The Air Tonight" is sort of pop-world historical and there's no excuse to not vote for it except "Against All Odds" is sublime and "Take Me Home" is prolly my fave Phil Collins song just to, like, listen to, you know?

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Saturday, 1 August 2009 18:19 (fifteen years ago)

"Do You Remember?" is a pretty ballad, if you remember.

Lamont Dozier co-wrote and co-produced "Two Hearts."

"Against All Odds" is so good it makes me wish Stevie Wonder lost the Oscar in 1984 (provided he would be promised a win in 1991 for any given Jungle Fever song).

sir-mounter (Eric H.), Saturday, 1 August 2009 18:30 (fifteen years ago)

It would be nice if Heric E. let us know how he left off "Another Day In Paradise".
Otherwise the tracklisting, barring a couple 90's duds, makes for a good Phil compilation.

jetfan, Saturday, 1 August 2009 18:38 (fifteen years ago)

sussudio is underrated

― SNaKaTTaK (goole), Friday, 31 July 2009 15:12 (Yesterday)

I love the bit where it sounds like all the backing singers are shouting "FREAK!!!"

grocery groin (snoball), Saturday, 1 August 2009 18:43 (fifteen years ago)

It would be nice if Heric E. let us know how he left off "Another Day In Paradise".

Heric E apologizes for the error, and would like to offer you the live version of "Who Said I Would" instead.

Heric E. (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 1 August 2009 18:51 (fifteen years ago)

"Against All Odds" adeptly interprets Reagan-era dread into a love song, so that one. Though a lol vote for "You Can't Hurry Love" is very tempting.

wide swing juggalo (Euler), Sunday, 2 August 2009 06:49 (fifteen years ago)

would've voted for Another Day in Paradise.

Ludo, Sunday, 2 August 2009 08:55 (fifteen years ago)

Against All ODds, but I mostly hate his music

Gonna vote "Billy Don't Lose My Number" cause it was like my fav song from No Jacket Required and I have very fond memories of it. Plus it's got a killer intro.

touch my bum / this is life (daavid), Tuesday, 4 August 2009 07:39 (fifteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Thursday, 6 August 2009 23:01 (fifteen years ago)

"In the Air Tonight", but I have a soft spot for "Billy Don't Lose my Number" too.

o. nate, Friday, 7 August 2009 15:57 (fifteen years ago)

"against all odds", easy.
they don't do ballads like this anymore, do they ?
I feel like it disappeared sometime in the 90s (and we used to dance slows at parties, damn !)

AleXTC, Friday, 7 August 2009 16:05 (fifteen years ago)

"Against All Odds" for me, too. There are plenty of decent tracks to choose from, but I like his vocal performance on "AAO".

EZ Snappin, Friday, 7 August 2009 16:07 (fifteen years ago)

and the drums, maaan !

AleXTC, Friday, 7 August 2009 16:08 (fifteen years ago)

Yes, and the drums.

EZ Snappin, Friday, 7 August 2009 16:10 (fifteen years ago)

"Against All Fucking Odds (Take a Goddamn Look at Me Now)"

Alex in NYC, Friday, 7 August 2009 18:04 (fifteen years ago)

sort of surprised by how many of these i like, but still "in the air tonight" -- for the drums alone.

curious if "easy lover" is the highest-charting duet by two drummers. (guessing the answer is yes.)

flying squid attack (tipsy mothra), Friday, 7 August 2009 18:13 (fifteen years ago)

Something Happened On the Way To Heaven 1

lol

Anatomy of a Morbius (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 7 August 2009 23:07 (fifteen years ago)

top 3 pretty much spot on. like that everyone who voted AAO instinctively chose to vote for the one w/ the subtitle

morbs morbs morbs how do you like it how do you like it (donna rouge), Friday, 7 August 2009 23:16 (fifteen years ago)

seven years pass...

I Missed Again is great innit.

piscesx, Friday, 28 October 2016 21:40 (eight years ago)

That album is terrific.
