right now i'm feeling green river, tho i don't know

mark cl, Sunday, 2 August 2009 04:15 (sixteen years ago)

COSMO'S FACTORY

this

Polyphonic Shooting Spree (m bison), Sunday, 2 August 2009 04:46 (sixteen years ago)

Willy and the Poor Boys, because after years of knowing just the radio singles / Chronicle it had the most astonishing deep cuts, esp. "Effigy", but "Don't Look Now" is an underrated pop moment.

wide swing juggalo (Euler), Sunday, 2 August 2009 06:21 (sixteen years ago)

first 5 is probably the greatest run in pop music?

thinking green river, it's the "spooky" one.

Cosmo's for me

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Sunday, 2 August 2009 20:05 (sixteen years ago)

Self-titled was the first album I ever bought. It's got Walking on the Water, a psych epic. So that wins.

ρεμπετις, Monday, 3 August 2009 00:43 (sixteen years ago)

I have been crazy about Pendulum lately. I didn't like it that much when I first picked it up, but now it's my favorite. I considered starting this poll a few times.

Trip Maker, Monday, 3 August 2009 13:14 (sixteen years ago)

Cosmo's has the highest concentration of hits/singles, which is great...but I hate the sequencing, and "Grapevine" meanders. (When I wanna hear CCR stretch out, I'll take their first two albums, thanks.) So I'll go with the unstoppable Green River, even though it's playing time is ridiculously short. I've got no problem with albums of less than a half-hour, but they should damn well offer at least a full ten tracks, really.

Stop wishing death on people just for the cool thread titles (Myonga Vön Bontee), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 07:23 (sixteen years ago)

Never heard "Mardi Gras", but the rest are all great. "Cosmo's" gets my vote.

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan noo an' aw (Tom D.), Thursday, 6 August 2009 09:36 (sixteen years ago)

Green River forevah

Mardi Gras is a bit of a mess, but Fogerty's songs are great. The other guys' material is passable to poor.

girlish in the worst sense of that term (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 6 August 2009 15:45 (sixteen years ago)

Willy, and otm about the album cuts ("It Came Out of the Sky," "Cotton Fields," "Don't Look Now").

Anatomy of a Morbius (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 6 August 2009 15:47 (sixteen years ago)

Willie and the Poor Boys deserves some love. I think I voted for "Effigy" in the epics poll. No, I voted for "Ramble Tamble." But Effigy is HEAVY.
CCR are one of those bands that everyone owns a greatest singles collection, but you're missing a huge chunk of what made them so great by not having all the album tracks, too. woah xpost.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 6 August 2009 15:48 (sixteen years ago)

lolz has there been a CCR deep cuts poll (ie, everything but the singles?)

girlish in the worst sense of that term (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:11 (sixteen years ago)

I wish i'd voted for "Bayou COuntry" now

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan noo an' aw (Tom D.), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:13 (sixteen years ago)

there was an album-track poll:

CCR - Best Non-Single/Album-only Track

scott seward, Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:18 (sixteen years ago)

Ha, shakey even started it. Not too many votes, huh? I didn't vote in it.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:23 (sixteen years ago)

Neither did I! What a disgracefully low turnout!!

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan noo an' aw (Tom D.), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)

lolz @ me

girlish in the worst sense of that term (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)

Woah, looks like I voted. I posted on it, anyhow.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:24 (sixteen years ago)

that is a weird result and boo low turnout

girlish in the worst sense of that term (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

It's like a black hole thread, no one remembers it.

Trip Maker, Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:25 (sixteen years ago)

i didn't vote on that one ... would've been either "sinister purpose" or "ramble tamble" ... voted "Green River" in this one. A cliche but can we marvel at the fact that "Green River" was their third album of 1969!?

tylerw, Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:27 (sixteen years ago)

yeah I think they put out four albums in a 12 month period between and '69 and '70

girlish in the worst sense of that term (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 6 August 2009 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

wtf, that poll closed the day after you created it! Nobody had the chance to vote.

An explanation at last!!!!!!!!!

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan noo an' aw (Tom D.), Thursday, 6 August 2009 17:15 (sixteen years ago)

i voted for bayou country but i dunno....this is still an almost-impossible poll.

omar little, Thursday, 6 August 2009 17:20 (sixteen years ago)

it really is one of those cases where whatever album i'm listening to at the time is kinda my fave at that moment. (ha! except for poor mardi gras which i don't even own a copy of.) also see: led zep, steely dan, byrds. and others.

scott seward, Thursday, 6 August 2009 17:26 (sixteen years ago)

yeah, that is true of CCR -- I mean, I've gotten to the point where hearing them on the radio is not exciting at all, but whenever I put on any of their records, I'm instantly deep into a "CCR is best band ever" thing.

tylerw, Thursday, 6 August 2009 17:28 (sixteen years ago)

I don't own and have never heard the first album or the last two - of the others it's between Green River and Cosmo's Factory. It's odd, I'd never really heard them before I started buying the albums ('Bad Moon Rising' apart) so I never differentiated between the hits (though they clearly had a few over here) and the rest, it was all new to me.

Gavin in Leeds, Thursday, 6 August 2009 20:22 (sixteen years ago)

Probably Green River for me - though Willy and Bayou come close.

o. nate, Friday, 7 August 2009 15:53 (sixteen years ago)

I don't own and have never heard the first album or the last two
The s/t and Pendulum are both amazing and worth your time.

Trip Maker, Friday, 7 August 2009 15:59 (sixteen years ago)

s/t has the best version of "I Put A Spell On You" imo.

ian, Friday, 7 August 2009 16:27 (sixteen years ago)

The s/t and Pendulum are both amazing and worth your time.

Just after I made that post last night I checked and the whole lot is on Spotify - gave the debut a listen and I'm actually tempted to vote for it now! It's even spookier than Green River! Such a great band. I'll give Pendulum a go as well, why not.

Gavin in Leeds, Friday, 7 August 2009 16:36 (sixteen years ago)

Pendulum's great - love the wacky backmasking/psych effects track

girlish in the worst sense of that term (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 7 August 2009 16:43 (sixteen years ago)

Pendulum was the album that made me a big fan. i liked the hits and i had 45s when i was a kid, but i got a copy of pendulum when i was a teenager and i thought it was great. so, that's what made me buy everything else eventually. pagan baby was my jam.

scott seward, Friday, 7 August 2009 16:50 (sixteen years ago)

Willy and the Poor Boys, because after years of knowing just the radio singles / Chronicle it had the most astonishing deep cuts, esp. "Effigy", but "Don't Look Now" is an underrated pop moment.

Interesting. Chronicle's all I know, but this thread makes me want to delve into the albums.

Hugh Manatee (WmC), Friday, 7 August 2009 16:52 (sixteen years ago)

GREEN RIVER

sonderangerbot, Friday, 7 August 2009 17:00 (sixteen years ago)

oh man yeah Pagan Baby is the jam

girlish in the worst sense of that term (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 7 August 2009 17:13 (sixteen years ago)

oh man, WmC, you can get all the LPs for like $5 apiece or less probably, you should do it man. So great.
