Was about to name it "There Goes Pollin' Simon", but try to avoid poll titles that mean the search function doesn't work.
Alternative title was also "When I think back on all the crappy poll titles we used to come up with" ;)

But a great album nevertheless.

And this is seriously hard. So many great tracks here. Voting for "Something So Right", but also love "American Tune", "Take Me To The Mardi Gras" and "Something So Right".

"Kodachrome."

"American Tune" is fantastic though.

voted "american tune," but of the less-obvious favorites i have a big soft spot for "was a sunny day."

Something So Right....but wasn't an easy choice

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Monday, 3 August 2009 05:04 (sixteen years ago)

This is a really nice record. Sentimentally leaning towards "Was A Sunny Day," as my mother used to insist that either I or my brother, as a small kid, sang along about "all the people passing pies." But it's "St. Judy's Comet" that pops into my head more often, and I really like that song.

'Cause if I can't sing my boy to sleep,
well it makes your famous daddy look so dumb.

Awww!

Crap cover art though.

In '86 USA Today ran a semi-serious op-ed piece floating the idea of a new national anthem. They suggested several rock-era songs as candidates -- S&G's 'America' was on the list, but I thought 'American Tune' was a much better idea.

Actually "American Tune" was written very much the same way a lot of European National anthems were. You take an already existing classical work (in this case, a carol composed by Bach) and write a modern lyric, obviously about your country, to it.

cover art is atrocious

gotta go with Kodachrome tho

American Tune is amazing - Grady Tate! and the bit where the strings come in on 'And I dreamed I was dying'

always have a place for Paul Simon

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Saturday, 8 August 2009 22:09 (fifteen years ago)

the cover is so bad it's like "was there a contest involved?"

OCONDOR (Pt.1), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 06:14 (fifteen years ago)

the five winning designs were cut and pasted together

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

Voting "American Tune". I also love "Something so Right" but the mid-paced tempo and shuffly feel seem wrong for it, somehow -- I actually prefer the Annie Lennox cover. [Fine, bring on the Suggest Bans!]

Kodachrome
