Haven't seen much discussion of this around here. One of best and most unique bands I've heard in years.

Ooh! I saw them a month or so at the Ritual For Elephant And Castle and they absolutely blew me away, live. What of their recorded output should I be checking out?

Spotify/download/buy The Snake asap! There is one album before called 'Heartcore' but I haven't heard that.

Reference points: a more sophisticated 'Sung Tongs'; a wilder, improvisatory Newsom backed by Jim White from Dirty Three; Nina Simone, Bjork.

Maybe someone more knowledgeable can expand on that.

this already exists except instead of newsom its the 10000000x more talented nina nastasia

It takes balls of brass to call your band Wildbirds & Peacedrums.

five years pass...

I saw them on Saturday night and the performance was spectacular. I just can't see myself listening to the recorded material though. I was just streaming the new album now and the drums seem to have lost a bit of their power and her voice is just, well, too much. Maybe filling in the gaps where other instruments would be?
