I'm sure Jimi Hendrix will win handily, but I really love "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes," patter included.

whenever i see that album cover i'm kind of amazed at how un-fun they make Woodstock look!

tylerw, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 21:31 (sixteen years ago)

I saw a "Where Are They Now?" story about the cover couple on Yahoo news last month. They got married in '72 and are still together.

The Wild Shirtless Lyrics of Mark Farner (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 21:43 (sixteen years ago)

The cover couple (and the photgrapher) are interviewed in the latest Smithsonian magazine, too -- or maybe that's where Yahoo news got it.

Anyway, lotsa great choices up there, but I wore the grooves white with endless replays of "I'm Goin' Home."

Such A Hilbily (Dan Peterson), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 21:48 (sixteen years ago)

Gotta go with Richie Havens, because that's about as far into the movie I get before I just can't deal. I've probably seen it all over the years, just not in one sitting, or even one weekend.

EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 5 August 2009 22:46 (sixteen years ago)

Predictable I know, but I have to say Hendrix.

Hugh Manatee (WmC), Wednesday, 5 August 2009 22:49 (sixteen years ago)

Sly! Sly!!!

goin with country joe

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:02 (sixteen years ago)

as much as i love sly's performance, and richie's too, country joe just really sums up the feeling of community for me, with all the audience participation

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:03 (sixteen years ago)

man, i watched the Woodstock movie last night and am just amazed at the quality of performers at this event and the fact that 400,000 kids were psyched.

Meanwhile the Killers headlined Lollapalooza.

Whiney G. Weingarten, Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:04 (sixteen years ago)

sly goes in so hard on this.

to the sound of old g-dep (M@tt He1ges0n), Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:17 (sixteen years ago)

Going with Ten Years After here with extra shoutouts to their bass player who doesn't stop freaking out for 10 min.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:31 (sixteen years ago)

Have to admit though that the footage of The Who used in The Kids Are Alright ("Sparks," "Underture") wipes the floor with all of these.

Elvis Telecom, Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:32 (sixteen years ago)

of what's on here - Sly by a million miles. Always thought it was a total travesty that the best stuff (more of Sly's set, CCR) was not included. Granted CCR's exclusion was their own fault but still

go Nick go! Scrub that paint! Scrub it!! Yeah!! (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 August 2009 23:36 (sixteen years ago)

Finally went w/Sly. "Sea of Madness" has been my jam the last couple of months, but the medley is just undeniable. It's a shame about CCR--the Woodstock stuff is easily the best live material I've heard from them.

Jimi

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan an' aw noo (Tom D.), Friday, 14 August 2009 15:39 (sixteen years ago)

Country Joe for the spirit of the thing (and because I recently interviewed him about it) but Sly's the one I would have wanted to have been there for.

Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 14 August 2009 16:49 (sixteen years ago)

"Have to admit though that the footage of The Who used in The Kids Are Alright ("Sparks," "Underture") wipes the floor with all of these."

^ Absolutely true. I'll vote Ten Years After.

Bill Magill, Friday, 14 August 2009 19:53 (sixteen years ago)

"volunteers" on this rocks so hard. and opens with that great "good morning, people!"
