I voted X-static...just liked the riff, and the hushed verse melody....

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 00:42 (sixteen years ago)

I honestly don't remember anyone here ever talking about the new foo. Maybe it's happened, but I don't remember. Big Me, I guess.

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:25 (sixteen years ago)

There was a good song on this album?

Daniel, Esq., Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:30 (sixteen years ago)

yea, 11 of them....unlike much of their blander later stuff

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:31 (sixteen years ago)

"I honestly don't remember anyone here ever talking about the new foo"

^ haha yeah. we do seem to have had about fifteen threads tho!

thomp, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:37 (sixteen years ago)

Help me explain to my friend why the Foo Fighters don't matter.

thomp, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:37 (sixteen years ago)

well I do agree that the FF shouldn't be in no Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. I mean not even close.

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:38 (sixteen years ago)

this is a really rad album imo its sweet and v. funny but sad too

no song on this is as good as "everlong" tho

♀ + ♂ + ♋ = ☿ (Lamp), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:42 (sixteen years ago)

i dunno i got tired of Everlong fast even though it was at one point my favorite off of Colour and the Shape...

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:42 (sixteen years ago)

yah - im listening to the s/t now and plan on listening to that next so well see if mo holds up

in terms of the poll qn so far its "big me" which kind of sounds like weezer w/o the date rape emotions

♀ + ♂ + ♋ = ☿ (Lamp), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:44 (sixteen years ago)

i have the s/t on cassette and haven't seen it in years...fail.

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:45 (sixteen years ago)

foo's now suck (and other bands who are also dreadful)

I now despise the Foo Fighters. The first 2 albums were great, but the new ones suck whale sperm through a straw. Why you no good no more Dave?
Other bands who suck;

Glassjaw
The Used
Finch
Puddle of Mudd
Staind
and any other nu metal type band you've heard of.

p.s MESHUGGAH RULE.

Nirvana or Foo Fighters

I am a big Nirvana and Foo Fighters fan.
Tell me, who is better for any reason.

"good grief" is pretty rad ~~ didnt the indie stepbro in clueless put this on a mixtape????

♀ + ♂ + ♋ = ☿ (Lamp), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:52 (sixteen years ago)

true story:

the summer i was eleven i bought the s/t and i think maybe an r.e.m. cd and after i got back from the mall i rode my bike to my friend w4rren's house so we could play sfII and listen to my new cds. when we biked back to my house to go swimming my mom asked if we wanted to go get ice cream. for some reason when we got to the ice cream place i got annoyed by the cds in pockets and put them on top of the car but then forgot abt them because this kid i new was there w/ his older sister getting ice cream and we started talking and i have add. it wasnt until i got home that i remembered id left my new cds on top of the car and when i got out and looked the rem cd was still there but this one was gone

♀ + ♂ + ♋ = ☿ (Lamp), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 01:56 (sixteen years ago)

wait is the point of this story 'small children stole this but did not care for R.E.M.' or 'R.E.M. are more immune to gravity than the foo fighters'

thomp, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 02:04 (sixteen years ago)

because if the latter maybe they should learn to fly

thomp, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 02:05 (sixteen years ago)

('learn to fly' is the title of a popular foo fighters single.)

thomp, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 02:05 (sixteen years ago)

the car was actually one of those old land rovers so small children probably didnt take it and giants are well known to only enjoy garage, two-step and mendelsohn so the latter

♀ + ♂ + ♋ = ☿ (Lamp), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 02:06 (sixteen years ago)

"x-static" tht this was a crappy metal band but i guess its a pretty dope ff song - maybe the 3rd best so far - the sweet build is nice but it drops off too quick

♀ + ♂ + ♋ = ☿ (Lamp), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 02:12 (sixteen years ago)

eww Static-X. blurgh.

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 02:49 (sixteen years ago)

i'll stick around. easy.

all yoga attacks are fire based (rogermexico.), Tuesday, 11 August 2009 03:20 (sixteen years ago)

Fuck me if I haven't heard this album. I'm still going to vote in this poll because FOOTOS is the MOTHERFUCKING FRESHMAKER.

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 03:35 (sixteen years ago)

aka Big Me

CaptainLorax, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 03:36 (sixteen years ago)

This album being Dave Grohl on his own.

All other Foo albums being a band.

He never bettered this album (some subsequent singles are better than some singles on here, but..)

Moral?

Mark G, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 09:25 (sixteen years ago)

Hmm, bought a new copy the other day. doesn't sound as good as I remembered it although it is still enjoyable. I was 15 at the time I Loved it...amazing what 13 years does.

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Thursday, 13 August 2009 00:16 (sixteen years ago)

this band is boring imo

omar little, Thursday, 13 August 2009 00:19 (sixteen years ago)

they are now, sure....the only song of theirs in recent years I liked (other than maybe "Best of You") was "All My Life"...you coulda kinda tell hew as being influenced by QOTSA at the time, who he was drumming for.

They started to become overproduced as early as The Colour and the Shape.

Cyberdune Butt (Elvin Wayburn Phillips), Thursday, 13 August 2009 00:21 (sixteen years ago)

big me is great, but i also like x-static. the rockers on this one are pretty ham-fisted. i like when dave lets up a little and swings.

this is a call, duh

galumphing lummox (bug), Thursday, 13 August 2009 00:59 (sixteen years ago)

I saw him do these tracks at Tramps in NY shortly before the album came out, w/ most of the initial band config (Pat Smear for sure). Was surprised it was above Drummer Writes median.

prob For All the Cows or This Is a Call

Indiana Morbs and the Curse of the Ivy League Chorister (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 13 August 2009 01:00 (sixteen years ago)

I saw them on tour after the album was released...still have the autographed ticket when I met Grohl briefly after the show. the flannel shirt was sadly thrown out by my mom though :(

dog latin, Thursday, 13 August 2009 08:31 (sixteen years ago)

I was in the tent for that first gig at Reading Festival!

Mark G, Thursday, 13 August 2009 08:36 (sixteen years ago)

I've spent time with all the other Foo records over the years, but I think working in a record store the summer of 1995 caused me to overdose on this one from daily plays. Listening to it right now for the first time since then (probably). A lot of these songs are better than I remember them being, and OMG "Weenie Beenie" is an awesome punch in the face that I once loved but had erased from memory.

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 13 August 2009 10:09 (sixteen years ago)

"Big Me", but only because I liked the vid.

King Boy on Parole (King Boy Pato), Thursday, 13 August 2009 10:10 (sixteen years ago)

exhausted because of the false endings and the opening line. this album is great, and i love their third as much too - its totally power-pop, almost posies-esque.

like i'm the fucking orange juice man (stevie), Thursday, 13 August 2009 10:34 (sixteen years ago)

"This is a Call"

Alex in NYC, Thursday, 13 August 2009 11:44 (sixteen years ago)

I was in the tent for that first gig at Reading Festival!
So was I! My friend got concussed and had his limp body passed over the front few rows to security as a semi-conscious crowd surfer! It was completely nuts, and the only time I've felt claustrophobic enough in a crowd to have to get out. My friend got to meet some people out of Supergrass while he was getting first aid backstage though.

I am only now noticing this poll at all and am mad (within the context of a stupid ILM poll) that 'Watershed' did not get one single fucking vote from you bulbs, what with it being the best FF song ever REAL TALK

Women Respond To Bassong (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:22 (sixteen years ago)

Wattershed was a fav when I was 15....it didn't hold up as well on a repeat listen.
