These guys rule my life. The most impossibly deep, luxuriant, torpid, voluptuous, slightly nightmarish grooves ever.
Somehow I totally missed the recent addition to their myspace page, "Me, Myself, Good". It is astonishing. A constantly unfurling epic punctuated with terrifying horn blasts.

Also their DJ sets are amazing. I hardly recognise anything on them but they feel totally right.
Possibly too soon to dedicate a thread to them (I could wish they were more prolific), but here's your chance to get in on the hype while the going's good.

― jergins, Tuesday, 11 August 2009 17:44 (sixteen years ago)
anyone know what the 2nd track on the cosmic disco mix is? nosferatu?
― max, Wednesday, 6 January 2010 22:26 (fifteen years ago)
Well, so far the only one that's really pushing my buttons was "big smack and flies" but with all that dark psych guitar all over it, that was kind of a shoe-in.
― The Milkman's Wife (Masonic Boom), Monday, 26 July 2010 12:01 (fifteen years ago)
the new ep is boom!coming out with an amazing Sombrero Galaxy remix :)
― Kaiser Size, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 09:43 (fifteen years ago)
That Different Gear edit of Kevin Lyttle is fantastic. Sounds like a bit of Radiohead in there too. Great mix.
― groovypanda, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 21:15 (fifteen years ago)
That's one of my favourite DJ mixes ever I think! The spoken word intro, the Cassidy tune, the Kevin Lyttle remix, the whole thing is so dark and mysterious yet oddly romantic.
― Tim F, Thursday, 29 July 2010 00:17 (fifteen years ago)
did you guys see when they came by and posted on the other thread?
― max, Thursday, 29 July 2010 02:59 (fifteen years ago)
i tried emailing the guy thru ilx but it didnt work
― max, Thursday, 29 July 2010 03:00 (fifteen years ago)
wait what new ep!? i'm 100% on board with them being remixed by sombrero galaxy, love everything i've heard from them too.
and i was wrong on the other thread, i guess they have 3 official releases right? and is tim talking about the cosmic disco mix?
― a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 29 July 2010 03:05 (fifteen years ago)
this is a thread for the BALEARIC REVIVAL
― max, Thursday, 29 July 2010 03:05 (fifteen years ago)
r&r and mungo and o&k have been my working late nights in the summer soundtrack
― max, Thursday, 29 July 2010 03:06 (fifteen years ago)
psychgawsple, i'm talking about the "Mystery Mix" they did for DJ History.
Tracklist is at the top of the thread.
The original conceit was that people posting on DJ History had to try to guess what all the tracks were. Subsequently R&R put them out of their misery by revealing the full tracklist.
― Tim F, Thursday, 29 July 2010 04:44 (fifteen years ago)
why did i never download that? i only have 'provenance' and the cosmic disco thing, and they are both great. and i love like 80-90% of the mystery mixes in djh too
― a lagoon par la mer (psychgawsple), Thursday, 29 July 2010 04:48 (fifteen years ago)
It's their best mix IMO, get on it!
― Tim F, Thursday, 29 July 2010 09:21 (fifteen years ago)
Haha that Kevin Lyttle/Everthing In It's Right Place mix is so weird yet works so well.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 29 July 2010 09:24 (fifteen years ago)
One of the most counter-intuitive yet successful bootlegs I can think of.
― Tim F, Thursday, 29 July 2010 09:42 (fifteen years ago)
9. Chris Bowden - Crockers & Killers (Palmskin remix)10. Different Gear - untitled (from the “Part 4 & 5” twelve inch)
^^^^ still so amazing, this section. I love this mix so much, definitely one of my absolute favourites of the past decade.
― Tim F, Monday, 6 December 2010 09:19 (fourteen years ago)
this looks cool
I've never listened to Cos/Mes yet but they've released stuff on ESP Institute (the Lovefingers guy's label)
Ever since Koji (aka Flatic) from Cos/Mes told me that Naruto was conceived around ‘water’ as a motif, I knew this was going to be special. So, after months of preparation King Kung Foo Records is intensely proud to present you another celebration of the 'themed release'.
...
Because the original is such an inspiring multi-layered epic gem, Ronny & Renzo ended up doing two remixes. The first enforces this 12” release with its mind-boggling mix of up-tempo cosmic disco & deep techno. Ever wondered what happens when you combine water & electricity? The second remix will get a separate release on single sided vinyl sometime soon.

any interest in a roll-call + re-up of some of these mixes? because every time summer comes round i fall more deeply in love with these guys, and i can't be the only one searching old hard drives to get together a late afternoon's worth of denatured cosmic torpor while i wait for mungodelics, right?
these seem available:emotional pop 15Hottest Hits Outernational 2 "Caribe Jive” (this is the mystery one talked about upthread i think? not sure why i have it titled like that)cosmic disco exclusivefinger mag 48noise in my ear mix
& the internet tells me these also exist, but no links:cadavre exquis - your pocket grows seafood on the moonhomecookin 'solitudes selection'music for the darktalking in stereo mix
oh and in the course of scouring dj history for these i came across an old (dead) post of theirs with 'LIFE AND DEATH IN G & A (Ronny & Renzo Secret Stretchedit)' - anyone heard this?
― lucas pine, Thursday, 28 June 2012 01:16 (thirteen years ago)
also 'provenance' - http://soundcloud.com/ronny-2/r-r-mix-provenance
― max, Thursday, 28 June 2012 01:47 (thirteen years ago)
unfortunately i dont have links to any of the the "internet tells me these also exist" mixes
― max, Thursday, 28 June 2012 01:48 (thirteen years ago)
Also the Desert Blood mix, I'm having trouble finding a link but i can upload it at some point.
Hadn't heard it before, their "COS/MES - NARUTO (R&R Takotsubo Take Ten)" mix is insane insane insane insane insane:
http://soundcloud.com/kingkungfoo/cos-mes-naruto-r-r-takotsubo
http://www.junodownload.com/labels/King+Kung+Foo/releases/
Their previous remix of the tune was great too. Love these guys to death basically.
I wish they'd make "Me, Myself, Good" available to buy digitally...
― Tim F, Thursday, 28 June 2012 12:51 (thirteen years ago)
yeah the 'take ten' remix is stupendous, that's what really got me wishing i'd been there for the thread back in the days when the internet overflowed with these mixes. that chime is exactly the celestial lighthouse signal you'd use to call back the ancient proggy disco demigods from the ends of the universe - and then that wooshing metallic brush is the perfect reverse-cascading stairway of waves for the entrance of ZEUS, almighty pummeling riff of the cosmos. is cos/mes' stuff worth searching out on its own?
that provenance mix is neat (thanks max!), way more steely and sci-fi than their usual vibe. cool but it makes me glad at how unflinchingly bleak 'heartbreak theme' is when they so easily could have done up a goofier proggy mungolian take on it with some chuggy italo drums or whatever
