i lost my bookmarks in a computer mishap, so it seems like an appropriate time to canvas the ilm massive for their favorite blogs that post out of print or rare albums. i know there have been a few other threads, but i thought it'd be fun to start over.
for what it's worth i'm particular interested in genres such as:
- old-time country and folk- prewar blues (and some immediate postwar stuff)- african music (esp. ghana, kenya, congo)- soul/r&b- calypso and other caribbean- new music/20th century- people who share their rare 78s (not a genre, but you know)
the best such blogs have personality, a sense of style, and a sense of parsimony. make of that what you will. fire away.

Oooh thanx for that Mike!
Have you heard Side Effect: Goin' Bananas? Looks Kid Creole-ish even though their other albums don't.
And do you know if any of the Chilly albums feature tracks as scintillating as "For Your Love?"
Noteworthy on that first link: Two albums and two songs called "Something Special." And oh lordy: LaToya Jackson: My Country Collection

i really like http://zambonisoundtracks.blogspot.com/ ... it doesn't really have a theme to it, the guy just posts whatever he likes, but it's been great for new discoveries, and stuff that seems hard to find or underrated. there's also a lot of run of the mill kind of stuff you can find anywhere, but overall it's a pretty solid blog.

did anyone here ever use sordo music database? that place was wonderful. it just got shut down recently, and i'm wondering if there's anything else like it out there.

no huge surprise i suppose. ian said he was backing his site up and prepared to set up shop elsewhere, so i hope that happens!
― akaky akakievich, Friday, 2 April 2010 01:39 (fifteen years ago)
Google album blogs are going to be extinct by the end of this year. They're going away in a slow death. It does surprise me that these bloggers don't back up or think of alternatives when their stuff is deleted. I appreciate the things they do (esp. those who do out of print stuff), but they are very slow when it comes to new methods.
― lilsoulbrother, Friday, 2 April 2010 03:25 (fifteen years ago)
It's going to be a pretty quick death, actually, as even blogs full of 1960s are getting DMCAed to death. redtelephone66 just got killed off - they got copyright claims for stuff like the Holy Mackerel album, as if some major would be profiting from it if he weren't sharing it. Shit's ridic.
― drinkin a carton of peace juice (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 2 April 2010 03:33 (fifteen years ago)
It kinda makes me wonder what took them so long. It was going on for awhile. However it makes me wonder what the next format is going to be. I would say torrent but that is looking like it will die soon also.
― lilsoulbrother, Friday, 2 April 2010 03:38 (fifteen years ago)
BitTorrent is only dying for those who don't know where to torrent.
― WharfRat, Friday, 2 April 2010 04:43 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah true but you got to think about the rules associated with bitorrent sites especially specialized ones. I can see how a music blogger would be turned off by needing a certain ratio and a community which is easily fickle and vocal.
― lilsoulbrother, Friday, 2 April 2010 13:13 (fifteen years ago)
As long as Cosmic Hearse stays, I'll be happy.

getting replaced by cd blogs
― ☀ ☃ (am0n), Tuesday, 6 April 2010 17:27 (fifteen years ago)
As far as I can tell there are two things happening:
--Rapidshare is trying to seem more legit and thus being more aggressive about deleting links to copyrighted material
--Google is super cracking down on Blogger blogs which violate DMCA, like deleting whole blog posts from ppl's sites.

you get an email notifying u that the offending posts have been reset to draft mode. you can remove links and repost if you want, but what's the point
I don't even post tracks anymore (just my playlists for viva radio) but I've gotten a bunch of notices regarding old posts where the links don't even work. kinda thinking of deleting the whole thing and starting over on wordpress tbh

Any more of these still going?
