the top 10 thread has a lot of good stuff in it, but the title tends to force people to think too much about it. like, i have no idea yet what my "top 10" would be, but i know a lot of things i like. e.g, this is probably not top 10 material for me, but i think guitar romantic (the exploding hearts) deserves end-of-decade consideration. it was sort of overlooked and does what a lot of other people were trying to do at the time -- that garagey power-pop thing -- but better.

I'm from Jersey.

I saw the Glands twice, once at Wetlands in NY to a crowd of 8 people, and again 2 years later at Maxwells in Hoboken, to maybe 20 people. You could tell by then that they were growing weary of their total obscurity. It's a shame because that record should have been huge.

i really like that glands album.

i never tried to figure out why but french kicks latest album really reminded me of that glands disc, but with reverb. i liked it too.

Ghost, Electrelane, Nina + Jim all solid recommendations and heartily seconded.

That's such a fucking boring list. Apparently Panda Bear put out the best record of the decade! The Strokes at #2 is just fucking stupid. And I like Joanna Newsom, but Ys is far better than her debut.

Someone's comment on the GVB post: "that's a great list. all essential listening. the fwd from carles pretty much makes it unbeatable"

Well, there's a lot of good discs on that list but, yeah, it's a bit . . . predictable/safe. OTOH, the heart wants what it wants.

LCD Soundsystem apparently put out the best record of the decade. Animal Collective, Radiohead chart multiple times. And Fleet Foxes are at #37!
