Yvonne Elliman sounded pretty good on the original cast recording of Jesus Christ Superstar. However, somewhere between then and when she shot the movie, she decided she needed to slide into every goddamn note! It sounds utterly ridiculous.
Murray Head was a passable Judas on the record, but yea I more associate him with Chess. and not just the anthem "One Night in Bangkok". He isn't the strongest singer in the world, a little too throaty for my ears, but he does most of his numbers justice and then some on that recording. pissed tha mine is scratched.

Apparently Murray Head is very popular in France.

Yvonne Elliman, for the RSO singles!
Particularly "Love Me" aka "fuckmeplz, oo just a little bit harder..."

Murray Head was at least in one of my favourite films (for which I've done the subtitles) - Sunday Bloody Sunday. I'll give him the nod for that.

oh come on, he's incredible in jcs. judas's death?? he brings it.
― galumphing lummox (bug), Thursday, 13 August 2009 10:21 (sixteen years ago)
he's good on "pity the child" in chess, too, but the production on the ocr is so dated

He does a good Judas. the problem is he's forever overshadowed by the amazing (late) Carl Anderson in the role.

You will never think of Murray Head the same after Say It Ain't So Joe. This song is so good I could plotz. Seriously friends, dig this because it's going to blow your musical mind.
Thank you Scott Miller Music: What Happened for alerting me to the Godlike genius of Murray Head Say It Ain't So Joe. If anybody says anything snarky or less than complimentary, I will fart on your parents.

This song is the definitive "turntable hit", reminds me, has there ever been a thread on that?

And so now I know what the line "they say that our hero has played his trump card" refers to.

xpost yeah it got reissued so many times over about 2 years, never made it into the chart.
It wasn't until years later I found out where the phrase comes from...
