hater I have your diamonds[/i}

Spinning off from the Is anyone else looking forward to the new Cat Power? thread, where people are debating the merits and otherwise of Chan Marshall's back catalogue. I thought here would be a chance to see exactly where ilx stands regarding Cat Power.
No doubt [i]Moon Pix
stands to reign triumphant, unless you know different. You've got till next Friday anyway, if you're interested.

Balls to my formatting skillz. Never mind.

I still haven't even heard the first two records, but You Are Free is my pick.

also good job picking a photo that reminds of everything i hate about CP since that record

some dude, Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:09 (sixteen years ago)

You hate her pubic hair most of all, don't you?

it's like i have a couple worked up orc dicks under my arms (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:10 (sixteen years ago)

eh? I only chose it cos ilx was the first (and only) place I ever saw that photo. ilx+CP = that pic to me.

DavidM, Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

it's a merkin! she's so fake!

some dude, Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:12 (sixteen years ago)

What did her merking ever do to you?

it's like i have a couple worked up orc dicks under my arms (Alex in SF), Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:16 (sixteen years ago)

it was involved in the recording of "The Greatest" for one.

genereal disease (jjjusten), Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:23 (sixteen years ago)

I've only heard maybe a half-dozen Cat Power songs total. "Cross-Bones Style" is pretty good. The covers I've heard have not impressed however.

Alex in SF, Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:25 (sixteen years ago)

xp: haha, yowch.

you are free!!!

borntohula, Thursday, 13 August 2009 17:27 (sixteen years ago)

it's a merkin! she's so fake!

Next you'll be telling us she's not even that much of a Dylan fan.

DavidM, Friday, 14 August 2009 16:54 (sixteen years ago)

Voted "You Are Free". Her peak, an improvement on "Moonpix", IMO. "The Greatest" is alright in parts, but mostly dull. "Jukebox" is simply terrible.

Duke, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:19 (sixteen years ago)

moon pix, it's where she reaches the peak of mesmerization.

alex in mainhattan, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

moon pix. good pic.

sonderangerbot, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:26 (sixteen years ago)

Moon Pix

nabisco, Friday, 14 August 2009 21:28 (sixteen years ago)

Moon Pix, The Covers Record and You Are Free are all 100% motherfucking perfect. The Covers Record wins though, just because I think it's the one I've listened to most often.

My vote.

Moon Pix is one of my favourite records.

sean gramophone, Saturday, 15 August 2009 21:29 (sixteen years ago)

moon pix, its got that dazed metallic sound that none of the others do.

Just voted You Are Free. Slightly surprised myself as I had a nagging internal voice urging me to vote for Moonpix. Too bad The Greatest only had two stone-cold classic songs, or it could have touched some heights, that one.

Lostandfound, Thursday, 20 August 2009 01:37 (sixteen years ago)

moon pix, absolutely. imo her strongest material by far and i dig that she had aussie backing musicians (the bass player died of a heroin OD not a year later btw).

i like community a lot and you are free has some strong points. myra lee is pretty patchy and i don't think much of the covers record(s) at all.

I think "Cross Bones Style" and "The Greatest" are her best songs, but overall You Are Free is her most consistent and best album.

ahahahaha that is awesome

tylerw, Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:21 (sixteen years ago)

no votes for "Myra Lee." that's a sweet little album. great cover of "still in love," plus a few more awesome songs. I missed this one, but I would have voted:

1. What Would the Community Think
2. Myra Lee
3. You Are Free
4. (tie) Moon Pix & The Greatest

nicky lo-fi, Thursday, 20 August 2009 23:28 (sixteen years ago)

six years pass...

Just to say I love this performance of nude as the news. steve shelley from SY on drums which is great but a waste of his talent for such a simple song, wish he had improvised more on this one.

At any rate he fits since the song has a strong kim gordon/sy sound.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 January 2016 03:30 (nine years ago)

yeah Steve is so in the pocket on What Would and Myra Lee. it breaks my heart that those records are basically forgotten/ignored by Cat Power's contemporary fanbase.

some dude, Thursday, 7 January 2016 04:21 (nine years ago)

i've totally lost track of what she's doing after hating jukebox so much. a shame.

akm, Thursday, 7 January 2016 05:28 (nine years ago)

oh wait, I liked Sun. but yeah, moon pix and previous seems almost like it was a different person. Thse were pretty much the last times I saw her; three times. one time she was amazing, one time she was alright, and one time she was fucked up and it was werid and bad.

akm, Thursday, 7 January 2016 05:30 (nine years ago)

Listening to Moon Pix this afternoon after years of not thinking about it. She has a lovely voice, a shame she never lived up to the potential of those years. She had the voice, the mind and the looks to be so much better. If she wanted to ditch the grunginess and sell albums for coffeehouses she could've at least aped Feist.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 January 2016 05:34 (nine years ago)

that is a weird summation of her career. she's done quite well for herself.

akm, Thursday, 7 January 2016 06:08 (nine years ago)

*apes Feist*

hunangarage, Thursday, 7 January 2016 06:40 (nine years ago)

Hahaha ok sorry I was just focusing on the Jukebox album which is as milquetoast as they come. Free and Greatest were actually pretty good albums. Jukebox lost me and Sun didn't really won me back.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 7 January 2016 10:12 (nine years ago)

what would the community think is the most perfect alone by a river at dusk music, haven't listened in too long

ogmor, Thursday, 7 January 2016 10:22 (nine years ago)

I am listening to EMA's past life martyred saints and it seems like the kind of album Chan could have made. Sounds very similar to Moon Pix or Community...
