Never figured that one out. Pressing quality is bad. jacket and everything looked like boots. At the time it didn't seem like something he'd produce

well no, indeed. taking the year into consideration dj spinna is the guy whose sensibility it most reminds me of, or maybe even jazzy jeff or someone. at the same time though it just - juuuuuust - plays on the verge of ur primo gullibility, in an insidious kinda way that makes you feel a bit foolish. and it is quite a good record! but the mystery makes it twice as good.

surely we can discount it really being on noo trybe, that part of it is glaring. (archi do u actually own this!! if this ever made it to england at the time i'm sure i never saw it. wonder if there's anything etched in the runout groove.) but if it is a hoax then they've risked that bit of info too far to make it credible.

but what an elaborate ruse if so (just to make some negligible bootleg cheddar?), what an outstandingly daring double, quadruple bluff on record store nerds! and all these million permutated vortices of abnegated pride and responsibility, on the part of the producer, primo, and us the sucka listener. i suppose maybe the ultimate implication is that it's easier to produce this kinda stuff (which has clearly been paid some sorta attention to) than to knock off classic style primo bangers; it's like a heartfelt tribute in negative, almost.
