Nominations for Best NZ Album ever.

Hello. I would like to do a poll on the greatest NZ album. Its tough though so I thought I might get some nominations form the community before I make the list. Max. of two albums by one artist. I would like to accept compilations where they were put out in lieu of an album not just as career spanning retrospectives. Under this condition- The Clean Compilation would be O.K as would AK 79.
Heres 11 that i think should be considered. Mainly F.Nun.- thats my bias.

Terminals- Touch
3ds- Venus Trail
Tall Dwarfs- Weeville
Crude-Inner City Guitar Perspectives
Verlaines- Hallelujah all the way home
Bachelorette- My Electric Family
Dead C - Trapdoor F---- Exit
AK 79 Compilation
Chills- Submarine Bells
Axemen - Peter Wang Pud
Clean-Compilation

I would nominate some more recent stuff, but what's the point... I'd never actually vote for it.

my knowledge of NZ pop is spotty & leans towards the experimental/lo-fi/drone side, so i'm hardly even qualified to post on this thread tbh

if i was going to nom another dead c album it would be "harsh seventies reality"

really enjoy birchville cat motel's "beautiful speck triumph" too, now that i look at my cds and remember when i went through a heavy phase of falling asleep to that album.

Which two would you choose if only two? Is this rule an ass?

Some good picks. Def. go with most of these.

Hinklepicker, Sunday, 16 August 2009 05:52 (sixteen years ago)

Ugh, so so many to choose from. Even some of the "lesser" ones are things I'd never want to be without:

Able Tasmans - A Cuppa Tea And A Lie Down
Bats - Couchmaster
Cyclops - Goat Volume
Peter Jefferies - A Chorus Of Interludes
Tall Dwarfs - Hello Cruel World
Jay Clarkson - Packet

So many damn great records! I'd add Bird Nest Roys - 1st.
Also I'd nominate Fall In A Hole and Cramps Rockinnreelin but I know they'll be dismissed as ringers.

OK I will do this Poll in the next couple of days so any more ideas would be welcome otherwise I will have to go with some of what is here plus my own terrible choices.

While "True Colours" may be there best, Split Enz also deserves nominations for "Waiata" and "Conflicting Emotions"

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Friday, 21 August 2009 22:59 (sixteen years ago)

Depending on the definition, there's Crowded House too, although they were at least 50 per cent Australian and also Australia based.

Hinklepicker, Saturday, 22 August 2009 12:44 (sixteen years ago)

NZ's genius resides, though, in its 12"s. The top 25 NZ 12"s would be a strong list.

Michael Train, Saturday, 22 August 2009 13:00 (sixteen years ago)

we never did a Dead C poll?

i nominate Tall Dwarfs - Fork Songs
