At another time in my life, I probably would have chosed Castles Made of Sand, but lately If 6 Was 9 has been my jam, so I'm going with that.

Bold As Love

I listened to it this afternoon to help choose, but it's still tough. Bold as Love, I reckon.

That bad cut in the tape for the solo of Bold As Love. I love that. First studio sloppery I ever noticed.

I'm also torn between my love for both these songs.

Although there have been seasons when the title track, One Rainy Wish and Little Wing have all been my favorite rock songs of all time.

This is tucking tricky, more so than either other Hendrix studio album. Need to relisten.

Really tough to pick. This record is balls-to-the-wall with insane performances. I even like the throw away "She's So Fine". Probably going with "If 6 Was 9"

It's "Little Wing", although "EXP" is great too, in its own non-musical but very 1967 way.

"Wait Until Tomorrow" over "You Got Me Floatin'" and "Little Wing".

This was surprisingly tough. I wound up choosing "If 6 Was 9," would probably feel differently if I re-listened.

AFter tonight's visitation of the Axis, I'm still sure that my favorite is the one I voted for.
But Little Wing nearly swayed me.
EXP is a great opening.

castles made of sand = top notch high school poetry jam. as campfirey as hendrix gets, this side of the wind cries mary. love this album, makes me feel like I'm sneaking cigarettes at summer camp.

Off the top of my head, "Spanish Castle Magic", but really tough to choose!

It really is a groovy and sorta different Hendrix record, hangs together really well with more stoned-melancholy chick-flick soundtrack fodder and less of the psychedelic sex god stuff. I like it all, but this is definitely the Jimi For Lovers LP.

After growing up on Electric Ladyland and a lot of comps and live albums I finally got around to hearing Axis this year and really it might be my favorite Hendrix album, really captures what I love most about the Experience with a good number of songs that I'm not totally burned out on. "Spanish Castle Magic" is incredible.

A lot of soul influence on this album

Love the version of SCM from Live at Winterland (which also includes the incredible "Tax Free").

This and Band of Gypsys are my two favorite hendrix offerings.

yeah, definitely a soul feel to it. I read something about him being obsessed with Curtis Mayfield around this point iirc.

The more I think about it, shoulda voted "If 6 Was 9", some amazing way-out-there stuff going on in that track! Though maybe covering up Jimi's guitar with out of tune flute at the end was not such a great idea.

I find that ballads by raving rockers usually move me the most, so "Little Wing"

^^ According to Wikipedia this is correct. They refer to it as the "percussive muted wah-wah effect."

The drumming on 'She's So Fine' is amazing... well yes, all the drumming on this album is.

I've come around to EL in a massive massive way

I probably like Castles more than 1983, but lack of the latter still hurts Axis imo

Axis is great, but slight. EL is great, thorny and easy to get lost in.
