though little wing, castles made of sand and title track are close for me

Trip Maker, Sunday, 16 August 2009 20:58 (sixteen years ago)

Just ask the axis...

kingkongvsgodzilla, Sunday, 16 August 2009 21:22 (sixteen years ago)

At another time in my life, I probably would have chosed Castles Made of Sand, but lately If 6 Was 9 has been my jam, so I'm going with that.

Moodles, Sunday, 16 August 2009 23:45 (sixteen years ago)

chosen that is...

Moodles, Sunday, 16 August 2009 23:46 (sixteen years ago)

Little Wing.

Hey mighty brontosaurus! (Boxing Kangaroo), Monday, 17 August 2009 00:07 (sixteen years ago)

Bold As Love

kornrulez6969, Monday, 17 August 2009 00:19 (sixteen years ago)

I listened to it this afternoon to help choose, but it's still tough. Bold as Love, I reckon.

Hugh Manatee (WmC), Monday, 17 August 2009 00:39 (sixteen years ago)

That bad cut in the tape for the solo of Bold As Love. I love that. First studio sloppery I ever noticed.

bendy, Monday, 17 August 2009 02:18 (sixteen years ago)

The title track.

Anatomy of a Morbius (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 17 August 2009 02:22 (sixteen years ago)

At another time in my life, I probably would have chosed Castles Made of Sand, but lately If 6 Was 9 has been my jam, so I'm going with that.

I'm also torn between my love for both these songs.

Moka, Monday, 17 August 2009 02:45 (sixteen years ago)

Although there have been seasons when the title track, One Rainy Wish and Little Wing have all been my favorite rock songs of all time.

Moka, Monday, 17 August 2009 02:48 (sixteen years ago)

This is tucking tricky, more so than either other Hendrix studio album. Need to relisten.

Sickamous (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 17 August 2009 04:52 (sixteen years ago)

it's between Aint No Tellin and Little Wing...will go for the latter, such dazzling guitar

Dr X O'Skeleton, Monday, 17 August 2009 21:20 (sixteen years ago)

Really tough to pick. This record is balls-to-the-wall with insane performances. I even like the throw away "She's So Fine". Probably going with "If 6 Was 9"

Adam Bruneau, Monday, 17 August 2009 21:27 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

System, Monday, 24 August 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

It's "Little Wing", although "EXP" is great too, in its own non-musical but very 1967 way.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 02:17 (sixteen years ago)

"Wait Until Tomorrow" over "You Got Me Floatin'" and "Little Wing".

my dixie wrecked (Euler), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 04:52 (sixteen years ago)

This was surprisingly tough. I wound up choosing "If 6 Was 9," would probably feel differently if I re-listened.

Matos W.K., Tuesday, 25 August 2009 05:09 (sixteen years ago)

AFter tonight's visitation of the Axis, I'm still sure that my favorite is the one I voted for.
But Little Wing nearly swayed me.
EXP is a great opening.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 05:11 (sixteen years ago)

castles made of sand = top notch high school poetry jam. as campfirey as hendrix gets, this side of the wind cries mary. love this album, makes me feel like I'm sneaking cigarettes at summer camp.

Brio, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 13:39 (sixteen years ago)

Off the top of my head, "Spanish Castle Magic", but really tough to choose!

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan an' aw noo (Tom D.), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 13:40 (sixteen years ago)

It really is a groovy and sorta different Hendrix record, hangs together really well with more stoned-melancholy chick-flick soundtrack fodder and less of the psychedelic sex god stuff. I like it all, but this is definitely the Jimi For Lovers LP.

Brio, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 13:47 (sixteen years ago)

After growing up on Electric Ladyland and a lot of comps and live albums I finally got around to hearing Axis this year and really it might be my favorite Hendrix album, really captures what I love most about the Experience with a good number of songs that I'm not totally burned out on. "Spanish Castle Magic" is incredible.

some dude, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 14:00 (sixteen years ago)

A lot of soul influence on this album

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan an' aw noo (Tom D.), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 14:02 (sixteen years ago)

Love the version of SCM from Live at Winterland (which also includes the incredible "Tax Free").

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 14:04 (sixteen years ago)

This and Band of Gypsys are my two favorite hendrix offerings.

Yeah, that Tax Free is great. Hannson and Carlsson

Bill Magill, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 14:05 (sixteen years ago)

Is that Bo Hansson of, uhhhhhhhhhh, Bo Hansson fame?

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan an' aw noo (Tom D.), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 14:06 (sixteen years ago)

xpost

yeah, definitely a soul feel to it. I read something about him being obsessed with Curtis Mayfield around this point iirc.

Brio, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 14:08 (sixteen years ago)

The more I think about it, shoulda voted "If 6 Was 9", some amazing way-out-there stuff going on in that track! Though maybe covering up Jimi's guitar with out of tune flute at the end was not such a great idea.

Aw naw, no' Annoni oan an' aw noo (Tom D.), Tuesday, 25 August 2009 14:10 (sixteen years ago)

Is that Bo Hansson of, uhhhhhhhhhh, Bo Hansson fame?
Sure is.

Trip Maker, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 14:18 (sixteen years ago)

I find that ballads by raving rockers usually move me the most, so "Little Wing"

factcheckr, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 22:56 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.

System, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 23:01 (sixteen years ago)

Shit, didn't see this poll. I woulda voted for one of the two 'castle' songs.

Is "Little Miss Lover" the first-ever appearance of Shaft-style wah-wah guitar on record?

Myonga Vön Bontee, Tuesday, 25 August 2009 23:14 (sixteen years ago)

^^ According to Wikipedia this is correct. They refer to it as the "percussive muted wah-wah effect."

Andrew Sandwich, Tuesday, 1 September 2009 20:16 (sixteen years ago)

one year passes...

The drumming on 'She's So Fine' is amazing... well yes, all the drumming on this album is.

Axis is so much better than Electric Ladyland amirite?

nostormo, Sunday, 3 November 2013 21:21 (twelve years ago)

You are.

Moka, Sunday, 3 November 2013 21:30 (twelve years ago)

well, you're the one who made this poll..

nah

Defund Phil Collins (stevie), Sunday, 3 November 2013 21:37 (twelve years ago)

I've come around to EL in a massive massive way

they're not chanting Lou, they're calling you 'boo' (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 4 November 2013 12:46 (twelve years ago)

I probably like Castles more than 1983, but lack of the latter still hurts Axis imo

they're not chanting Lou, they're calling you 'boo' (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 4 November 2013 12:48 (twelve years ago)

Axis is great, but slight. EL is great, thorny and easy to get lost in.

Defund Phil Collins (stevie), Monday, 4 November 2013 17:18 (twelve years ago)

Best album
