Who did the better "Oh Darling": The Beatles or Supertramp?

Well natch you expected the underdog answer when you looked at the thread title, right?

The Supertramp track is the heart & center of "Breakfast in America," hook after hook and sigh after sigh of promises more concrete and honest than McCartney's generic tropes. When I first heard the song, the sparkling opening notes lost their promise at "will you ever change your mind?", thinking it was another whiny tale of a jilted, egocentric man. The rest of the verse twists the idea around, though, feeling like (as they say in the next song) part of the furniture in your relationship.

The keyboards are so rich and varied, from the chugging chords of the verses to the fantastic, glittery faux-harpsichord. What a gorgeous outro, too! So warm and such beautiful harmonies.

Ok so Geir come set me straight.

Supertramp's one moment of genius for me is the album cover for 'Crisis? What Crisis'.

The music itself is rather bland, although 'Hide in Your Shell' isn't bad, and this song (Oh Darling) no exception.

The Beatles is better in this case, even though not my favourite "Abbey Road" track. Supertramp were excellent by the time of "Crime Of The Century", but had lost it somewhat in 1979.

This is weird. I own Breakfast, and have listened to it enough times, but I don't even remember this song. I'll listen some time tonight.

Is that the song from Hair?

I'm surprising myself by voting Beatles, even though this has never been a favourite Beatles song of mine. The vocals have more ... force (?) to them and I like the bass sound. I agree that Supertramp were good at layering keyboard sounds and vocal harmonies. However, I think they had many tunes that were much stronger than this one where the orchestration is as good or better. "Hide In Your Shell" is a real standout for me too.
