Into the inferno - epic industrial exfoliations of self

There's a type of song I'm really into at the moment: the dark, extended soul-baring of an industrial artist, or an artist whose body of work is usually moody, noisy, and grim. The three main examples I'm thinking of are:

Alexander Hacke - Sanctuary...a fantastic 13-minute song of love for his girlfriend which sounds more like a last confession before apocalypse. Really dramatic, scary, monstrous, and above all catchy. A labyrinthine, unearthly opus.

Foetus - Kreibabe...from the POV of a (thankfully fictional) murderous paedophile, this IS the last confession before apocalypse, and it's earth-shaking. 13 minutes of mounting sonic terror.

Foetus - Finely Honed Machine...to be honest I have no idea what this one is about or why it exists, but it is demented. In about as profound and relentless a way as old JG could have imagined. Only needs 9 minutes but it's completely fucked.

Are there any more examples of this marvellous technique you can think of? Stuff like Neubauten's Headcleaner doesn't count because it's not specifically self which is being gutted for display.

oh ... this isn't a TMI thread

on topic, this thread makes me realize that most of the music I listen to either has no vocals or the lyrics are in a language I do not understand.

TG's "Hamburger Lady" involves, er, exfoliation, and it's epic, but not self-related.

That TG song is good but it isn't really wrought or long enough to qualify for what I'm looking for here. God more people need to hear that Hacke song.

okay, I listened to it a few times ... it's interesting, but a bit too repetitive for my tastes. It did get me thinking about what I really like in music, as well as the fact that I haven't heard "In the Coliseum" by Tom Waits in a long time.

I spent a lot of time last week listening to a bunch of Godflesh reissues and I think they might be at least on the periphery of the def'n... is it essential that you can make the words out or can it be uh a feeling?

it can be a feeling

overmars reissue i got last week is ruling my world. just so massive and beautiful. definitely the second best album i've heard this year after the gog album. gog album continues to stun me. played it SO FUCKING LOUD for my brother the other night and i honestly felt like i was on psychedelics. and all i'd had were 3 or 4 bass ale.

overmars born again album is one 40 minute track.

gog album is just, i dunno, a religious experience. got new gog stuff in the mail today too!

Suicide "Frankie Teardrop" and Khanate "Every God Damn Thing" and Current 93 "I Have a Special Plan For this World" all come to mind, they involve characters, not necessarily a first-person-of-vocalist thing, and they achieve the effect you're talking about from different directions.

For a super-short version of this effect, consider the Midwestern hardcore band Die Kreuzen's song "White".

Suicide "Frankie" ... definitely, was thinking of suggesting this yesterday, except it wasn't 1st person.

Reverend Bizarre - 'Demons Annoying Me': this is a doom metal song and not at all 'industrial' in terms of genre but it's 17 frickin minutes long and just CRAWLS along and is not really for communal listening I rather suspect

Women Respond To Bassong (DJ Mencap), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 22:50 (sixteen years ago)

would still rep for "Hamburger Lady" in the industrial exfoliation category.

Oh, well if we're expanding the terms of engagement, then Shit And Shine - Toilet Door Tits and Kayo Dot - On Limpid Form are definitely gonna figure

listening to that Current 93 song right now

OH WAIT I just remembered the OTHER main one I'd been thinking of

this might even be the best one

it is

Thighpaulsandra - Optical Black (feat. Jhonn Balance)

and it is

utterly crushing

Any other Coil suggestions welcomed, but you have have HAVE to hear that song, ANY of you with an interest in extreme music
