All the classic rock songs on CD1 are only there to demonstrate basic musical concepts. The historical survey begins after that. A number of tracks are here to illustrate points made in various articles used in the course.
Suggestions for the future are always welcome, especially re recent R&B, hip-hop, and techno.
Omissions I feel worst about: almost any country, any gospel, King Tubby, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, more pop-disco, Ida Cox, more Stevie Wonder, Chicago, Heart, any trip-hop, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
The only tracks I don't personally enjoy are Alanis and Sarah McLachlan.

Ha, I forgot all those links would expand out.
So Sundar, are you required to comply with a "Canadian Content" rule, like the radio stations up there? (Not making fun; I really want to go back and listen to that Gordon Lightfoot song now...)

Ha, xhuxk, no, but I am, you know, teaching in Canada and discussing issues specific to pop in this country. I am also discussing a lot of issues that have to do with the history of pop in Detroit, since we're so close in Windsor.
― Sundar, Monday, 17 August 2009 22:39 (sixteen years ago)
That looks a lot better than the stuff that was in my pop music class.
