Perhaps hubristically, I am posting the listening list for my fall popular music course here

All the classic rock songs on CD1 are only there to demonstrate basic musical concepts. The historical survey begins after that. A number of tracks are here to illustrate points made in various articles used in the course.

Suggestions for the future are always welcome, especially re recent R&B, hip-hop, and techno.

Omissions I feel worst about: almost any country, any gospel, King Tubby, Lee 'Scratch' Perry, more pop-disco, Ida Cox, more Stevie Wonder, Chicago, Heart, any trip-hop, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The only tracks I don't personally enjoy are Alanis and Sarah McLachlan.

Ha, I forgot all those links would expand out.

Sundar, Monday, 17 August 2009 22:31 (sixteen years ago)

So Sundar, are you required to comply with a "Canadian Content" rule, like the radio stations up there? (Not making fun; I really want to go back and listen to that Gordon Lightfoot song now...)
