I gotta say ive been sleeping-kinda on these dudes ... i remember hearing about how aeroplane-y some of their shit was, but its way more associated w/ a trashy/trendy/LA/kitsune/scene-y type deal, which should be off putting except instead it makes me like it more?? maybe bcuz my impression of that scene is that its such a musical wasteland.

but yeah what won me over wasn't the cred-building stuff like the phoenix remix or the holy ghost remix (which is the shit) or this track (which is dope) w/ the jailbait video (less dope):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAzojbN9_yk

but this SWAYZE remix that still has their corny ass lyrics, but now they're like, cheesy-in-a-good-way cuz the music underneath is so good, real embrace of this trashy LA aesthetic but w/ the production/songwriting to back it up, aka the CRAZYTOWN appeal.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mg4LK70Rp_U

um also i like them cuz they sound like simian mobile disco's "I believe"

butthurt (deej), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:19 (sixteen years ago)

i think that their willingness to go into the trashy waters makes them more appealing & fearless or something, and i sorta suspect my distrust of that scene is probably a lil bit of male nerdery / fronting

butthurt (deej), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:20 (sixteen years ago)

it is of course this sunshine hazy slow mo disco shit but brought to a more populist/less trainspotter world that im really digging about it.

butthurt (deej), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:21 (sixteen years ago)

shwayze one is amazing - the chorus goes from being insanely douchey to... druggy poignant

butthurt (deej), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:34 (sixteen years ago)

i like that it doesnt just make a bad song good, but makes things that were bad about the original into things that are good about the remix ... like its not about removing bad parts but recontextualizing them into becoming good parts, like this bad/good pop rapping

butthurt (deej), Tuesday, 18 August 2009 09:35 (sixteen years ago)

gives me some hope for them saving this overrated piece of wack:

BiG HoOs is the one claim!!! (deej), Monday, 14 September 2009 16:57 (sixteen years ago)

^they seem to have a knack for finding redeemable things about generally annoying songs

psychgawsple, Tuesday, 15 September 2009 05:25 (sixteen years ago)

basically w/ this & the shwayze i think its that they take borderline-nihilistic emotionally-retarded hipstro-detachment & turn it into, u know, feeling

not sure they quite pull it off with this one but maybe thats more interesting? Actually they do pull it off circa "...and our eyes might meet?" i think i can hear that question mark

BiG HoOs is the one claim!!! (deej), Tuesday, 15 September 2009 05:52 (sixteen years ago)

max, Monday, 16 November 2009 02:55 (sixteen years ago)

* What influences your music though?

We're really into early analog electronic music like ‘Kraftwerk’ and then bands like ‘Depeche Mode’. I think one of the first people that really brought us to dance music was ‘Stuart Price’ (aka Jaques Lu Cont, Paper Faces, Man With Guitar, Thin White Duke, Les Rhythmes Digitales…etc.) that was one of the first artists that made me realize not all dance music was cheesy & the ‘DFA’ too. Right now we are really into ‘Simian Mobile Disco’ because their sound seems a lot more timeless than a lot of the other producers right now. That’s what we're striving for.

hoos-kingofthedrugs (deej), Monday, 16 November 2009 05:00 (sixteen years ago)

where's that interview from?

i like the aeroplaney disco remixes they've been coming out with but i wish they'd put out a couple more big hard-hitters like cold act ill. also when they were known as young americans they did a great remix of 'bombs' by scanners

Saw these guys supporting Cut Copy last night. They are huge amounts of fun live. Was really surprised how great I'll Get You was. It's always been one of my least favourites on the album but it sounded so exciting last night. They ended with All You're Waiting For (sadly Nancy appeared only on screen) which was the big highlight. They also did a couple of covers (songs by The Preachers and Yacht) Think I'm going to playing this album a lot for the second summer in a row.
