to rococo rock (italian progadelic poll)

no way battiato or goblin (or cherry 5?) won't win this, though in a better world le orme would. and there'd be an italorocksampler. and the list would be more comprehensive (so many amazing one-shot albums it's hard to keep them all in mind). and i'd have bothered with images, because some of these record covers are unbelievable. anyways, apologies for mistaken capitalization according to articles, if there are any. my italian's not so hot

Blocco Mentale!

Amenaza Elegante, Thursday, 20 August 2009 21:28 (sixteen years ago)

new trolls, too, i know. lots of holes already in that list. but don't let the perfect be the enemy of the possible

kamerad, Thursday, 20 August 2009 21:36 (sixteen years ago)

A 9-month poll? Jeez.

I voted Locando Della Fate but only know about half these bands... looking forward to any recommendations

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Thursday, 20 August 2009 22:01 (sixteen years ago)

the polling period reflects the extended lengths of songs on these albums. plus june 2nd is italian independence day

kamerad, Thursday, 20 August 2009 22:27 (sixteen years ago)

I'll go for Osanna, but many of these I only really know of and haven't heard properly. Opinions on any of the bands on this list appreciated! I know Area, Goblin, PFM, Osanna, bits of Banco, Balletto di Bronzo, D Stratos. No Opus Avantra btw?

Matt #2, Thursday, 20 August 2009 22:42 (sixteen years ago)

mostly prog, not much -adelic here. and you missed circus 2000. probably gonna vote for PFM because "the world became the world" is pretty awesome. i dunno, though, maybe museo rosenbach or balletto.

ETERNAL WAR AGAINST THE DICKS IS ALL WE CAN RESPECT (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Friday, 21 August 2009 02:44 (sixteen years ago)

I only really know Le Orme (and even then only their first two records which are more psych than prog) and Goblin. "Ad Gloriam" is awesome, but I can't really pick against Goblin.

mostly prog, not much -adelic here
totally. and a lot of it's canterbury jazzy too, a la soft machine and caravan. i guess. hard to start saying anything definitive about music that's been so ignored over the years

Does a Noise dude know anything about Luciano Cilio?

Milton Parker, Friday, 21 August 2009 05:51 (sixteen years ago)

I know none of these bands but I'm voting Banco because I've actually heard one of their albums, I listened to it because I liked the cover so much:

Picchio Dal Pozzo are great too, but I voted for Jacula/Antonius Rex, the unrivalled masters of horror prog rock. Devil Doll sound restrained by comparison.

By the way, they could have been the perfect soundtrack for this astounding psychotronic jewel:

Do most of these guys sing in English? I wish Cherry 5 didn't. ;_;

god bless this -ation (Abbott), Friday, 21 August 2009 17:40 (sixteen years ago)

area is the finest of bands

Dominique, Friday, 21 August 2009 17:42 (sixteen years ago)

It's ok that they're not in the list (they're not much like the others here) but Confusional Quartet deserve props. Good early '80s instrumental band that's got an early Cardiacs thing going on.

I should have looked closer at the list. I have heard Area and Franco Battiato and Cherry 5. Still sticking with my original choice(s) though.

Stormy Six I know from a track on the old Recommended Records sampler - think Recommended even distributed some of their albs at some point or other:
