Paisley Underground: Essential Tracks

I'm trying to put together a mix for a friend.

So far I've got:

True West - Look Around
Dream Syndicate - Days of Wine and Roses
Green on Red - Gravity Talks

Other suggestions? Maybe some Three O'Clock? Rain Parade? It's been so long since I listened to this stuff...

Rain Parade - "No Easy Way Down"
Opal - "Soul Giver"

Three O'Clock "Jet Fighter"
The Pandoras "Hot Generation"
The Miracle Workers "Already Gone"
The Eyes of Mind - "With You Again"

Trying to think of an appropriate Thin White Rope track

Bangles "Hero Takes A Fall"

By the way, should have said to begin with...looking for the more sentimental, rather than upbeat, side of Paisley...just in general.

It's a bit of a stretch but how about some early Thin White Rope, maybe Down In The Desert?

MaresNest, Friday, 21 August 2009 08:15 (sixteen years ago)

gotta have "Sorry" by the Three O'Clock too, that's even more classic than "Jet Fighter" imo

Man Is Nairf! (J0hn D.), Friday, 21 August 2009 08:53 (sixteen years ago)

The Salvation Army's "she turns to flowers" and that True West + Steve Wynn "Lucifer Sam" cover.

Marco Damiani, Friday, 21 August 2009 09:15 (sixteen years ago)

Would definitely have the Long Ryders 'Looking For Lewis and Clark'.

I was going to post that song, til I saw this "looking for the more sentimental, rather than upbeat, side of Paisley"

It is a great song tho.

eight years pass...

This list is alright, I guess.

he doesn't need to be racist about it though. (Austin), Tuesday, 29 August 2017 19:22 (eight years ago)

I guess. Rain Parade's "No Easy Way Down" is the big omission here.

Have had Rainy Day "I'll Keep It With Mine" on repeat. Someone needs to reissue that disc.

there's about 6 sets up there from teh mid 80s and mid 00s when the band reunion happened.
Also a few solo Russ Tolman sets

you could argue over any of the 'Emergency Third Rail Power Trip' cuts.
I think 'This Can't Be Today' is nearly perfect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hXlVyz8LwU

Totally agree, every track on ETRPT is fantastic.

Should go deeper on the Three O'Clock:

Stupid Einstein
And So We Run
Fall to the Ground
When Lightning Starts
Her Head's Revolving
Mrs. Green
Hand in Hand
Half the Way There
Simon in the Park
Another World
Spun Gold

I thought people might be more excited about that Suspects set. The Davis University roots of the Dream Syndicate and True West.
I think I had one live set from them a few years ago and that's 2cds worth.
