Now that was supposed to be "Rock Poll", but nevermind ;)

Anyway. Voted for "Love In Song". Kind of tempted to go for the title track, but it is just too short to stand on its own feet.

"Letting Go" is the neglected highpoint here.

Mark G, Friday, 21 August 2009 11:54 (sixteen years ago)

I've never listened to this one, but I know I don't like "Listen to What the Man Said."

Johnny Fever, Friday, 21 August 2009 11:54 (sixteen years ago)

"Letting Go."

post-contrarian meta-challop 2009 (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 21 August 2009 11:55 (sixteen years ago)

Sure, "Letting Go" and "Rock Show" are both excellent power pop songs. IMO "Venus And Mars" is almost as strong as "Band On The Run". Had it not been for those two tracks where the other Wings members (well, at least not Linda McCartney!) take the lead vocals.

Tied Up In Geir (Geir Hongro), Friday, 21 August 2009 11:58 (sixteen years ago)

Yeah, this is a really good record - nothing I don't like here, although "Love In Song" kind of kills the momentum. Inclined to vote for "Call Me Back Again," maybe the last great entry in the "Oh Darling!" continuum. But it's gotta be Magneto. So bouncy! So fun to sing along to!

Doctor Casino, Friday, 21 August 2009 12:15 (sixteen years ago)

And I love the non-Macca wings leads, as a general rule. They do their work on the album and they don't drag at all.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 21 August 2009 12:19 (sixteen years ago)

Automatic thread bump. This poll is closing tomorrow.

I have this and I do love "Listen To What The Man Said".

jetfan, Wednesday, 26 August 2009 23:20 (sixteen years ago)

I agree with Doc Casino, it's totally Magneto ftw. Great harmonies and incredibly infectious melodies throughout, definitely in my Wings POX.

All in all a fine album.

I quite enjoy this album, probably would have went with 'Magneto And Titanium Man' also.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 30 November 2012 22:31 (thirteen years ago)

Just pulled this out the other night. My roommate was quietly into it, but the song that got him to ask what we were listening to was... "Medicine Jar." He also really liked "Lonely Old People."

Doctor Casino, Friday, 30 November 2012 22:32 (thirteen years ago)

OMG. Magneto & Titanium Man was a single!? And I don't own this?!

Doctor Casino, Friday, 30 November 2012 22:33 (thirteen years ago)

Or it's like...the b-side to Rock Show? But it got its own cover? Whatever, I want one.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 30 November 2012 22:34 (thirteen years ago)

I like 'Medicine Jar' a hell of a lot, and for me it's definitely the best thing Jimmy McCulloch gave to this version of Wings (I was never too keen on 'Wino Junko')... still blows my mind that a guy who wrote two blatant anti-excess songs ended up dying of a smack overdose.

Such a fine, throwaway confection of nothing. The songs all do the things that songs do, on albums by bands like this, without once giving any sense than anyone involved knows all the material is dopey, the conceits silly, the affectations exhausted. Kitsch, but kitsch with such sticky hooks becomes something else, I think.

My elementary school self would agree with ILM's #1 here.

_Rudipherous_, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 03:08 (twelve years ago)

Have absolutely know desire to ever hear any of this again though.

_Rudipherous_, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 03:08 (twelve years ago)

Absolutely know desire. (But I am sleepy.)

_Rudipherous_, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 03:09 (twelve years ago)

balls, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 03:27 (twelve years ago)

Others stated love for "Magneto!" In the thread, even! And no, I haven't - any good?

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 03:32 (twelve years ago)

kitsch with such sticky hooks becomes something else, I think.

OTM. Becomes the music of your life, sometimes. I still remember how I felt hearing "Listen to What the Man Said" on the school bus on the way to 1st grade.

timellison, Tuesday, 19 November 2013 05:56 (twelve years ago)

Anyway. Voted for "Love In Song". (...)

Not me, although I'd be interested in hearing whether or not it sounds any better.

Welcome To (Turrican), Tuesday, 11 November 2014 00:38 (eleven years ago)

Been listening to it on Spotify and it sounds dynamite. "Magneto and Titanium Man" just so solid and tight. It shows what a great recording and mix it was. "Listen to What the Man Said" too. Extraordinary stuff.
